hi guys .. turned my gaming pc on yesterday and apparently my C: maxtor 500gb is not seen in bios SATA 1: ....

tried swapping powerlead and connectors, still nothing with that harddrive but all over 3 harddrives are seen in bios.

its kapuut i take it?

ordering new hdd... if so  lucky i have no important data on the C:

Im in the same boat, the exact same thing happened to me yesterday morning. Turned it on and it wasnt been reconized in the BIOS, I thought the logical board had went as it was spining normally etc. but just didnt wanna be seen. Apparently this is a well known issue with the firmware being currupt. IF you want your data recoverd for free (I think), go to:
http://www.i365.com/data-recovery/index.html and click open a new case or call them on : +44 (0) 20 7432 4619

You could also get it replaced for free under warranty i belive. Im now waiting for them to pick it up from my home address tomorrow according to them.

You could also check the forum with people having the same problem:http://forums.seagate.com/stx/board/message?board.id=ata_drives&thread.id=9926

My brother has had this happen with his PC yesterday. 1 day working well (but with some FPS issues). The next day the hard drive can't be found (Maxtor 500GB, 8 months old). Tried different SATA and power connections but it looks like it's the drive. Was spinning but clicking/grinding on start up.

PC winging its way to manufacturer tomorrow :p

sounds bang on what i was getting same drive an all. couldnt think of anyway to resolve it so ordered another Samsung F1 1Tb.. as me first one had impressed me.

Luckily i dont have any important data on my C: always keep that on storage drives. Maybe lost a weeks worth of games saves and favourites. no biggie.

Apparently Maxtor have 3 year warranty of their harddrives and i do believe mine is about 2year old, so off for RMA is goes get a replacement. So thats some more good news... Now i got gigabytes coming out me ears :D

My advice for this problem is contact the manufacturers for RMA if under warranty. Strange very strange.
