Harddrive getting really really hot.......

Anyone else seem to find that there Western Digital Cavalier 7200rpm 16mb cache getts really really hot???

mines seems to be getting really really hot.

what case / cooling have you got. If its packed in tight with little ventillation any thing is going to get hot! All my hard disks have fans blowing over them so they are barely warm to touch!

from my personally experience they do run pretty hot. The hottest HDD's ive owned

Same here.....i have 2 in RAID and use to stack them next to each other in the case and I couldn't touch them.....

I seperated them by 1 slot now and have a fan blowing over them constantly....all good.....

its a coolmaster Centurion 5

i've only got 1 and its got a fan blowing over it atm

seems to still be getting hot... mainly in games it seems to get hot

Go get a copy of SpeedFan, that will report the drive temp for you. As long as it's under 50C then I wouldn't worry about it.

anything over 45*C worries me

cant risk it with hdd's. it goes kapput and so does all your data

just moved some of my fans about and its sitting at about 32 so that seems fine

according to WD the operating temp is 5'c - 60'c.....a fan blowing slow over them always reduces the temps very nicely though.

36 & 32 degrees c in my HTPC, 2500KS and 3200KS in a Silverstone TJ-08, one HD on case floor, other on bottom of HD cage) 15 degrees c ambiant. Not to sure of the two 3200KS's in my stacker, think around 28-31.

This has cropped up a few times: WD 2500KS drives appear to run quite hot. Mine are in two 5" drive bays with no cooling and they get warm enough to make the front panel of my case warm to the touch.

Some people claim it's a faulty sensor, but most people say they're just hot running drives. When I had a 7v 120mm fan on them they were cold to the touch.
