ive ripped out the old 160gig seagate drive and put it in a external drive case but when i plugged it into my laptop.......nothing. So im just wondering if any of you out there knows to cure for the poor drive as it held a lot of movies, music, pictures data etc

Hello again...

What do you mean by nothing? Is the machine just not detecting that a drive is connected, or is it there but empty?

If it's an IDE drive make sure the drive jumper is set to Master rather than Cable Select as most enclosures will require it.

It's also worth checking in Disk Management to see if the drive is appearing there.

Fill in a few of the blanks and I'm sure someone can help you.

Check if it's appearing in Disk Management and see what it says about the drive.

1. Log on as administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
2. Click Start, click Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
3. In the console tree, click Disk Management. The Disk Management window appears.

If the drive is showing as all unpartitioned space then you either need to give up and reformat or find some disk recovery software.

I can't recommend anything off the top of my head but Google should turn up a multitude of options. Most recovery software has a demo mode that will show you what can be recovered if you pay for the registered version.
