hardocp 3870x2 review up

Be cheaper for you yes, but anyone with one of the new ATi chipset boards that can take 4x 3870's would be mad not to get 4x of them instead, if they gona save just under a ton. :p

OcUK is not the only place with stock. :)

quad any cards isn't a good idea for gaming - you'll be fighting input latency.

So ive heard but i suppose it depends on the type of game you play if it really makes that much of a difference. On the quad sli reviews ive read the few games it worked on i didn't read much about latency. Probably more noticable in twitch shooters.

Jericho was bleeding like a piggy on the bacon slicer last night :p

Indeed he was! Was a good show last night infact!

The reviews ain't too bad I guess, definitely the fastest single card but with the next catalyst release etc it will no doubt get faster! I look forward to everyones take on the cards when they get them!

Pros

* The most powerful 3D Card
* DirectX 10.1 support and possibility to add another card
* UVD Inside (Avivo HD)

Cons

* High noise and power consumption at peak
* Small difference compared to a 8800 Ultra
* Few bugs due to internal CrossFire affect performance

The points in bold basically sum up the good thing and the thing that at the moment is preventing it being even better than it is

I would, when you can buy 2x single 3870's cheaper than that that are the same, which is what i would do, i wouldn't care that the X2 was only on 1x PCB, you can get the same card on 2x PCB's, same performance for less.

I cant find the exact review but one of them said for sure that the problems present with a crossfire 3870 setup didnt occur when they reviewed the 3870X2.

So your not paying for more for the same performance, or equivalent performance or anything. You are paying more for a much better GPU solution than crossfire 3870's.

the problem is just now you can buy 2 3780`s for around 260 to 270 , so to get a single card that performes the same and pay 30£ more...... the price needs to come down to 250 if ati do that they will have a great card on there hands at 300 its nothing new and as said you can get the same or better performce with 2 cards either crossfire or sil

Seeing these benchies i'm very interested to see the price it comes in at. Whilst it only appears marginally better than 2 3870's in xfire which can be had for £270, and it gets beaten by 2 GT's in SLI which can be had for £310.

Whilst one would expect is to be around the £270 mark, if it approaches too close to the £300 mark then people will just SLI 2 GT's for the same cost and better performance

PCZ, gets the GX2 is 2 GTS's SLI'd which will ofcourse beat this card, but i'd imagine that coming in at the £400+ area so really a different market to this card.

Only those who have a SLI modo ..not many.

I reckon the hardwarecanucks.com review is probably the best one. They explicitly mention that they are using the absolute latest drivers, and that they re wrote most of their review to coincide with that release.

£300, thats a major problem for ATI!

The twin GTs beat the X2, and so you can safely expect the badly named 8 series in disguise 9800GX2 to be equal or better to the GT's, beating the X2. As long as NV dont push the GX2 out at any more than £330ish it will definatley be the better card... that is if people dont just SLI a pair of GTs or GTS's...

Not looking good for ATI...

Again assuming most people are using a sli mobo.

You have to remember that this is the day of release so the price will be high, i fully expect in a couple of weeks it to be around the £250-£260 mark.

So the internal crossfire could be buggy killing its performance just like the 2900 and 3870 with AA? Well they cant release it untill they have fixed it then..

Short Memories.

As far as I'm concerned, at this price, it really should be beating 2x GT in SLI. Sure, it's the fastest single slot card, but for someone who wants the best of the best in their PC, who sticks with one card anyway? I'd find it hard to recommend this because due to it's price I don't feel it fits into the market very well.

Oh well.
