HardOCP Max Payne 3 performance review

Damn game is 30GB to install on 4 damn dvds WTF, Rockstar never heard of Winzip??

Anyways, currently overlcocking my lightning and will start MP3 in a bit, thanks for link.

I really hope its not like MW3 where everything is 'scripted' and the game is tunneled, and cut scene crazy (though i hear it is).

This game looks A LOT better than i thought it would, well done Rockstar. Also plays very smoothly with a single GTX 580 @ 1920x1080

So far really smooth. All settings maxed out except MSAA which is off. Only running a single 5850 at the moment so i run out of VRAM if MSAA is on.

An overclocked 7970 should beat an overclocked 680 by a decent margin then if these results are a true indication of performance.

To the op about his crossfire statement. This is what the conclusion actually said.

"In this preview of Max Payne 3 performance we found out that NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX work on launch day. It is good to see AMD on top of its game in terms of CrossFireX support; this is what AMD needs to happen with every game. We did find that SLI seems to be scaling better than CrossFireX. This leads to the GeForce GTX 680 SLI providing better performance over Radeon HD 7970 CrossFireX. However, even on Radeon HD 7970 CrossFireX the game was performing above 60 FPS at 2560x1600 with the highest in-game settings and FXAA, which looked and felt perfect."

It seems even though scaling was not as good as nvidia it does not really matter as amd done a good job according to the reviewer. For anyone reading the op and not the full article it could look like amd scaling is really bad.

Thanks.

I have this game maxed up and i think its a big dissapointment, really not impressed with it. Apart from that the game itself is far too repetative. Oh im glad i didnt pay for it.

When it comes to multi-gpu benchmarking scaling on its own means absolutely nothing. One card could be 20-30% higher fps than the other but feel worse to play or you could have the same framerate on paper but one has enough microstutter that its a noticeably worse experience and so on.

I dont know why people are playing this game its fun but holy hell at the cut scenes and whats with the weird color shifting thats going on in every cut scene i know its ment to represent that he is drunk and telling you his story but WTF its seizure time for anyone who plays it that has even the slightest of epilepsy lol

It's probably one of the best games I've played. Maybe I'm biased because I loved 1 and 2 but I think they've really done this justice.

LOVE this game !

I read the whole thing, it's a shame that people think it's a good thing that AMD has crossfire support at the point of release. It isn't a good thing in my eyes, it's a must and it's largely unacceptable for any decent PC release to not have CF or SLI support from day 1.

In terms of the scaling 56% is pretty poor (especially as we know at least 79% is achievable). If I had shelled out for 7970CF I wouldn't be over the moon that 6 months on from release my multi gpu scaling is that much worse than the 680 which has been out for significantly less.

Also there seems to be far more effort in getting CF to work according to HardOCP.

All of this is the reason for my comment on AMD's CF in the first post.

In this game I actually get some pretty crazy FPS scores (170fps+) with three cards in DVI/1080p with the 12.6 driver installed, it is possible the scaling is configuration dependent.

Scaling is broken on my rig in 1440p using Displayport.

Some CF users are saying the scaling is good while others saying its not.

I still cannot fathom why this game is so bad with crossfire enabled.

Works phenomenally for me in CFx.
What drivers and CAPs are you using?
