Good Link Thanks but will this all so work for a HDD which dont have a OS installed on,
its only me 2nd HDD i want to clone not my one with windows installed on Thanks

I use Norton Ghost. Have some ancient edition but it's usually done the job. Haven't tried moving Vista yet though.

Willing to use linux? dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb conv=sync, noerror bs=32k where sda is the 250 and sdb the 1tb will do this quite happily. You then grow the partition to fill the rest of the drive using gparted.

dd literally looks at the serquence of 1s and 0s on the drive and writes them to the new place in the same order. You'll end up with a 250gb partition on the new drive.
