Hardware / fps issue

Hi,

Could anyone offer any ideas as to what could be happening with my laptop?

Problem: Playing any sorta game, eg 7 days to die etc the game will start perfectly and run for an hour maybe more then all of a sudden the fps drops, only way to get rid is exit and re-enter but then the issue comes back quicker each time.

I've done a clean OS install / drivers up to date so only thing I can possibly think of is a heat issue?

spec ( just over 2 years old now )
i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-3630QM 2.4
8GB KINGSTON 1600MHz
AMD RadeonHD 7970M - 2GB
120GB KINGSTON V300 SSD

Probably a heat issue, from your description.

Here are some tips:
Always play on hard surface, never on our laps (I know the name laptop suggests you can or should do this, but don't).

Get one of these:
Laptop cooler
Maybe adifferent model which would cool it directly from below.

I had the laptop on a desk, but have now put the cooler under it that I had so will see if it helps. (didn't think id need to use the cooler but will try it)

During game play and alt-tabin out I notice the temps GPU-Z are showing around 88 - 93, is this too high for a mobile GPU? Does the card naturally pull back once it hits a high temp which would cause FPS to drop?

Mobile GPU's do get very hot but from your description it can only really be a heat issue. Have you considered one of those USB fan stands for your laptop? Or maybe getting a shop to reseat your heatsink with some better thermal compound.. normally costs 30-50£
