Hardware or Software issue???

Hi guys,

Recently purchased a fairly decent spec PC from OCUK and after a week or so it randomly freezes during use, or hangs straight after i enter login password - no BSOD though.

I initially thought it was hardware: SSD HD or RAM, but it seems to run and login fine when booting from safemode.

I would like to try and diagnose the problem myself before phoning the OCUK call centre or having to send PC back etc.

would love some advice on how to go about diagnosing this!!! I've had a look round the event viewer and see there are a whole load of admin errors, but have no idea what these are or if they are actually an issue. Exampes are:

DCOM got error 1084
dependancy service or group failed to start
custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application
audit events have been dropped by the transport.0

I dont know if these errors are geniune or down to me having to force power off the machine after it freezes etc.

Many thanks for any help and advice!!

Cheers,
Nick

ok, just running the memtest now.

Will lowering the overclock oid any warranty etc from OCUK?

If not, how do i go about doing this?

thanks for your help so far :-)

Ah yes, might be worth leaving that to last resort, was windows pre installed, can you try reinstalling on a spare hard drive or on your current one.

Windows came installed on the SATA. However, i installed it on the SSD, which it ran great on for a while.... 2 passes of memtest and 0 errors so far. how long should i let it run?

PC is going through its only boot in safe mode behaviour today, so i cant repair from disk. Would prefer leaving a fresh install as a last resort...

Anything else i should check? Any software to check SSD? Any other error log info worth posting?

Let mem test run for a good half hr.

I would be inclined to try a fresh install at least on a different hard drive. What model and make SSD are you using.

I must admit I am a little stumped :(

3 passes in an hour and still no errors. So it looks like the RAM is ok....

I'll keep persisting, but its looking like a fresh install is my only option to take this further

fresh install......... worked until i had to restart after downloading all the updates it was missing. Now im back to it freezing after 2 spins on the w7 circle thing, unless its in saf mode, where it works fine

So a fresh install helped until after the updates? Did you install it on the SSD?

I have a strange feeling it could be firmware problems... Try updating them?

i think the fresh install only appeared to work, as it hadnt restarted yet. Doing it again and not installing updates, then restarting would the only way to know for sure (unless it decides to randomly login anyway without hanging just to keep things "fun").

Fresh install was on the SSD yes.

I'll look at firmware, thanks.

is there teh memtest equivilant for SSD's??

Thanks, i've installed this software and currently running a few of the tests.

Health status has a warning message:

Number of damaged sectors which have been replaced: 704
Status: the drive has damaged sectors.

Sounds like this could be the cause for the hanging?

Regarding the rest of the tests, do i just click on the various icons and hit start for each one? Is there no way of just running them all?
