Has 2017 been the worse year for gaming?

Yup, have been playing plenty of games, bought quite a few, but all older releases, nothing this year has grabbed my attention at all (and to be honest, there's nothing on the horizon I'm interested in other than Cyberpunk).

Maybe it's just because I get less gaming time these days so I'm pickier about what I play, but current releases seem to be 90% <insert franchise here> episode 847744 with vaguely redesigned maps and 1% higher resolution textures

Yep, so bad I can't remember a year I have done so little gaming, it's a sad state of affairs when games like BoTW offer gameplay levels above most stuff I've played on PC.

Only really liked PUBG because it's fast paced when the action happens, but also has a lot of tension. Not too much downtime in between games either. Not sure how long I'll like it, but each round is different, and I like that.

Tried Vanilla wow hoping for some nostalgic awesomeness... it's not as good as I remember. Or maybe I've just moved on.

Maybe I've just gone off games.

I don't tend to buy too many games but I've really enjoyed PUBG and Rising Storm 2 (though I still play RO2/RS at lot). I still play a lot of older games though like CoH2.

I've got £55 in my Steam account due to refunds for what I did buy, and I've spent most of my limited gaming time playing FC4.

So yes, gaming has been pish for 2017.

I think the best are still to come, I'm certainly looking forward to:

Wolfenstein 2
The Evil Within 2
Far Cry 5
Starwars Battlefront 2
South Park: The Fractured but whole.

I'd highly recommend you watch this video. It makes some VERY valid points and its in part, why i believe we are heading for a gaming crash.

Yea i agree with the video. Also that rabbit at 12mins 19secs made me laugh. :D

I think most of the games I've bought this year came out last year or older. I'll assume I'm gonna hit the rubbish period next year then!

I've reached the point where I buy maybe one new game a year (Horizon this year, which was fantastic to be fair), and have done for a few years now. They rarely interest me these days, so I've been replaying a lot of older games and think it'll remain that way. That of course means I'll probably never end up upgrading my hardware much again.

  • Resident Evil 7
  • Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Prey
  • Outlast 2
  • Wolfenstein 2
  • The Evil Within 2 (Maybe)
I don't think it's too bad. I still have older games to get through anyway!

  • Resident Evil 7 - didn't feel anything like of RE so was okay but not what was expecting or wanting from a RE game
  • Yakuza 0 - not seen this so can't comment.
  • Nioh - wasn't good in my opinion
  • For Honor (Fun for a while) - excellent concept really poorly put together, one of the most disappointing games to come out
  • Sniper Elite 4 - was reasonable. Liked the others and it's much the same but it isn't exactly amaing
  • Hollow Knight - not for me
  • Horizon Zero Dawn - Also thought this was poorly implemented and what could have been excellent
  • Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - haven't played, but sounds good from others.
  • Nier: Automata
  • Ghost Recon: Wild Lands (fun for a bit) - nothing like what I wanted from a GR game. GR:AW2 was last time I enjoyed a GR game.
  • Mass Effect: Adromeda (Disappointing compared to other Mass Effect games but still put in like 80 hours of this, Combat was super fun) - badly implemented, rushed, repetative. Nothing like what it should have been.
  • Persona 5 - Persona 5 isn't for me but relative it seems good for it's genre
  • Prey - overrated for myself tbh which is a shame
  • Injustice 2 - fun for a time. Not really got long term though.
  • PubG (Alpha) - heading in the right direction but still Alpha and a long way to go so will see.
  • Tekken 7 - wasn't good and really doesn't move forward from the older Tekkan games.
So this above is my views on those games noted. I would certainly say it wasn't a great year. There are a number in that list (For Honor, RE7, Horizon Zero Dawn, GR:WL & Prey) are all things that I wanted more from and they just didn't hit the mark and sometimes didn't even get on the board.

Edit: Wolfenstien 2 & The Evil Within 2 are two games I am hopeful for still.

The spamming rabbit was funny, and I like the way the subtitle thing struggles with the Geordie accent. :p
