Has anyone got any tips for the turn in the road?

Err, surely a bit of gas will make it a lot smoother? I can see the car juddering and perhaps stalling if he ignores the gas totally. Especially if it isn't a diesel.

It depends on the car. When I was getting lessons in a Corsa, I was able to move the car at a reasonable speed with the clutch only.

Maybe so, but I think its better to get in the habit of using the clutch and a bit of gas simultaneously during manoevers.

Also, I do believe the instructor will mark you down if you perform the manoever ridiculously slowly, undue hesitation etc

you can move a car too fast for manouvres (for the test) just with the clutch, well at least i could in my instructors 1.25 zetec fiesta. I used just clutch for my manouvres and got no marks down at all for hesitation or any such thing :)

You need to be ultra gentle with the pedals and fast with your hands.

Yep, the slower the car is and the faster you get the lock on the smaller your turn will be.

How are you messing it up? Hitting the curbs?

Just remember if your turn in the road takes 5 shunts instead of 3 your still going to pass, if you bump the kurb however its game over so if you think you might touch, go forward again and do it in 5 instead of 3 :)

My instructer put little stickers all over the inside of her car so it was a case of full lock line up sticker one with the curb, full oposite lock back up and line up sticker 2, pull away and your done :D

I have a 1.25 zetec fiesta, and although the clutch will move the car by just edging it up, you can't do it fast without any gas.

I dont see why he can't just tap his gas pedal lightly to stop the engine labouring and make the manoever smoother

when doing low speed stuff such as the turn in the road all i use is the clutch and this is on a 1 litre yaris

its what my instructor told me to do and both manuevers in my test were fine

It's not really necessary to be honest. At the speed he's moving at to do the maneuver, he won't be labouring the engine and the maneuver will still be done smoothly. He shouldn't need to add gas to increase the speed, as it should be done slowly in the test.
