Just after some advice or opinions / experience from some neutral people?

Overwhelmed with information when it comes to prices / types of invisalign

Decided i am fed up of bad teeth been part of my life / relationships and want to do something about it now i have an income.

http://www.invisalign.co.uk/en/Pages/Home.aspx

http://www.invisalign.co.uk/en/Find-Invisalign-Doctor/Pages/Search.aspx type sheffield in there and it comes up with some of the ones in sheffield, a few of which i have booked appointments with.

Some of them want up to £100 for an appointment, but most of them are orthodontics and not dentists, for that £100 they give you an assessment / treatment plan.

A lot of them offer 0% finance of some description, so if that is been factored into the price i dont know

I went to see one in Sheffield called Orthoscene a couple of years ago, and there price seems to be high (£4200), but i can get 0% over 3 years, and they gave me a lot of confidence that they knew what they were doing.

Cheers guys, i think it will be a long path ahead

it isnt medical, there are several threads on this area already if you search

but the threads are quite general, there seems to be a growing number of people getting invisalign so it will be intresting to see what people have experienced

well i saw someone at orthoscene a couple of years ago, they said invisalign would work for me, i would need to get an appointment to find out if that is still true.

Yea a general consensus is a lot of "dentists" are having a go at it and there not orthodontists.

A lot of other prices are around the £3500 mark, £700 more for the privilege of using a orthodontist? its not like the cheaper guys don't have any patients either, they all seemed to be busy with it.

Yea it does seem a lot compared to £1000! I know thats 6 years ago, but where were you treated ? how many of the things did you have ?

I've just finished my invisalign treatment! Overall it cost me £3000 and I had 18 sets for my top teeth and 14 along the bottom, which took about 7/8 months in total. Nobody ever noticed that I had the aligners in unless I told them so and even then they had to look very closely to see what I was banging on about, so for me that factor was worth the price.

I done it through my dentist rather than an orthodontist and am very pleased with the results.

If you've got any specific questions I'll do my best to answer.

Well the dentists doing it seem to be a lot cheaper, getting the treatement from orthodontists seems to be a lot more expensive.

Yes once you get your head round the whole eating thing i should imagine its not that bad ?

How many hours a day were you wearing them ? what sort of routine did you get into regarding eating / going out drinking etc ? some people seem to just do what they want and wear the sets a day or so longer to make up for it.

I gather you have to sleep with a retainer indefinitely, even after the treatment is complete. Is this true? If you had gone for a "standard" metal brace would this still be the case?

I too wonder to what extent this is true, surely after so long they must want to stay where they are? i read some people wear the end retainer every other night and thats enough apparently to stop them moving again.

There is also a new type of invisalign about to come out, but the company who make it are been rather coy about telling anyone any details for fear of people delaying treatment till its released.

I dunno, for me it has been in my late teens early twenties that they've really started moving about - so I guess it would probably ring true for me.

Interesting note on the new treatment, be intriguing to see what it is exactly.

Apparently its quite normal for people who had some sort of treatment in there teens to have teeth moving about again in there twenties, it just depends where they end up i guess.

Thats quite a long time, were hers quite bad?, some dentists describe some cases as more complicated even though they can be treated with invisalign and refer you to an orthadontist.

I have read some places are much cheaper, cambridge, coventry and London seem to keep coming up, it depends if it works out cheaper overall with the travelling, and how much influence the orthadontist / dentist has on the end result, the impression i get is yes it helps a bit in getting the moulds right to start with, but if it isnt working as predicted, its invisalign who work out whats going wrong and adapt it.

Update for everyone

Went to the free appointment at ideal dental care on Ecclesall Rd in Sheffield today, talked about it for a fair while, she agreed with orthoscenes previous comments that my case isn't that bad, but its all about where you want to end up and why your doing it.

We then started talking about the costs, its £2900 to start with, but this only includes the invisalign program and doesn't include whitening, retainers etc, which orthoscene provide in there £4100.

When you start looking at the costs of the things Orthoscene do within the £4100 it doesn't start to look too bad, retainers are up to £300, and whitening is £300, i know its not the £1200 difference, but some of that is simply because there an orthodontist and more specialized i guess.

They do interest free for 12 months, but over that they charge 7.9%, Orthoscene do 36 months 0%

She did say thats important to make sure your teeth are healthy before you start and that i might need a couple of small fillings.

Quite promising in general i would say.

She mentioned fixed retainers like that and said she wasn't keen, there have been cases of them coming off and obviously you don't know, and stuff starts moving, it would be an option i would prefer i must say.

I will see what the other people say next week.

Sorry I'm not sure if you were responding to me. It was only the wire that is fixed and you can't see it at all, I can only just feel it when I run my tongue round the back of my teeth. The clear braces were not fixed.

Yes i was responding to your comment, sorry, should have quoted it

Yeah was a long time but it only moves your teeth at like 1mm at a time.

Everyone has different needs from invisalign. We got a local quote for the service at nearly 5k but when we found the qclinic in london doing it for £1600 we went for it! it's gone up to 2k now but still cheaper then most dentist as thats all they do there!

http://www.qclinic.co.uk/our_special_offers.html

oooohhhh just seen you can get lipo in your lunch hour!

Its mega cheap that if it really includes everything! half of what its looking like they want around here!

Cheers for that input mate, how did you get away without wearing them during the day then ? did the dentist realize ? did this ultimately add to the normal treatment time? they recommend 20 - 22 hours a day.

I am lucky i think that most of the problem i have are not crowding, its mainly problems with my front teeth and positioning of the lower teeth, there is potentially space for them to move into.

The first orthodontist i saw said due to my jaw structure (very few people are lucky enough to have a perfect bite apparently) traditional braces would most likely not help me.

Yea i think i would be glad to be just getting on with it, 70%+ better would be brilliant, very few people have perfect teeth but its pretty obvious mine are not at the moment.

Where did you have yours done? how did you end up at £5100? i am starting to realize its not so much about the invisalign treatment but everything else thats involved, retainers, whitening etc, i am sure when orthoscene say £4100 they mean that is all it will be, where as the one i saw the other day everything was extra but the initial cost was only £2900.

Cheers for that imput mate! so where did you find out you could get away with 10 hours a day ? surely with the money you were spending you must have been concerned that 10 hours would not be enough ?

Looking into clearstep as well now, when you bring it up with the ones that use invisalign they dont seem to have much to say except that they havent been trained in it and that its essentially the same thing for about the same cost, i cant see how it wouldnt be cheaper when the labs are in the UK.

Went to see another place today "flint dental" in Sheffield on springbank road in sheffield (up abbeydale road)

Asked again for honest advice and an opinion on my situation, really helpful guy who saw me.

I discussed with him my concerns about the price etc, he says you do need to be careful that your getting a package that contains everything, also that flint dental was one of the first places in sheffield to offer invisalign.

He is going to send me a price as well as some treatment details in the post.

Another update

I went to another place today, the last of my free appointments I had organised.

The place was called Penistone Dental Care http://www.penistonedentalcare.co.uk/, the guy I saw was called White, Marcos, he seemed like a really knowledgeable guy, he actually owns his own practice in Huddersfield called Court Yard Dental http://www.courtyarddental.co.uk/

He comes across from Huddersfield to do the Invisalign at Penistone dental.

Had a chat, talked about what other people had said and what he thought, said it would not be a problem to sort out with invisalign and mine would be a good case.

Quoted a price of £3700, which includes the invisalign treatment, whitening, and some cosmetic dentistry, basically getting to a point where I am happy.

We looked at the finance there and then and I would be able to pay for it over 36 months at 0%, organised another appointment in 2 weeks at which point I have to have signed the paperwork, it will cost about £102 a month if I take it up.

I don't know how much that guy makes, but after he had saw me he walked down the street a bit with me, as he left at the same time, and a guy was waiting to pick him up in a Blacked out Mercedes lol.

Got a good impression from the guy really.. as he said you will be seeing the dentist you choose quite a bit over the course of the treatment so you have to like them.

Going back to Penistone dental I think tomorrow, got to make a decision.

i have not looked into clearstep as mentioned earlier, couldn't find any free consultations in my area!

Decided to go with Penistone Dental! starting treatment in 2 weeks, feel like i should be happy, instead i feel a little worried at what i have got myself into.

Anybody interested in an update ? its a year later and things are going pretty good! did this thread inspire anybody else to do it ? has anybody else started in the last year ?
