Alright, all sickos may leave this thread :D

I'm talking about getting your ears pinned back. Is it a good/bad idea?

THIS IS NOT A MEDICAL THREAD

One of my old bosses had it and his ears looked a mess. Really really tiny and weird.

A friend of mine in school had it done. We all used to rib him because we knew he'd had it done, but it did look much better - his ears were pretty much 90 degrees to his head, and very big. He looked much better afterwards.

A mate of mine had his pinned back as a kid so i dont know what he looked like beforehand. They look perfectly natural apart from the scarring behind his ear.

He doesnt get a battering, and he'll openly admit to having it done.

Yeh, I'd be prepared to accept a battering from just about everyone in terms of "haha you got an ear job" but it'd wear off eventually tbh.

The thing is, I'm suffering from lack of confidence atm, and I'm sure it's subconsciously linked to being insecure about my image.

Could it go horribly wrong?

If that's how you feel, then get it done. One of my brother's mates had it done, and the improvement in his self-confidence was massive. I doubt that there's much to go wrong really. It's a simple op (cutting cartilage out), and it must be one of the most regularly performed cosmetic ops.

I think that as I can get it done for free (my family are in medecine and have contacts) I might aswell. I'd just like to know how often it goes "wrong"

Like all forms of surgery there will always be a risk, judging by the process theres little success rate.....oops I mean fail rate :P

Do what you feels best mate

"Lauren Big Ears" in school had them done and it was a huge improvement. They started calling her "Lauren Big ****" instead, due to an altogether different "huge improvement" :fnar:

Is that how you'd define it.

Surely just "pinning" them back doesn't count :D

It's certainly cosmetic surgery.

I considered it when I was younger, I got a bit of stick at school about my lugs.

Tbh, I've grown into them a bit & wouldn't feel like me if they were different. The wife seems to think they are 'cute'

This thread does remind me of this picture though http://www.roguesgallery.com/matblack.htm :D

i had a medical operation (skin graft) to fix a perforated eardrum, it involved the same slicing down the back of the ear, in healing it pulled my ear in a bit
that with a combination of playing rugby for a few years has left me with one very lightly cauliflowered ear and one fairly tight in
not massively useful but as much experience as i have with it :p

Had it done when I was 8 (now 32). Doctor and Mum talked me into it as it would bosst my confidence yadda yadda yadda. Doesnt feel any different tbh. Best part was three months off schhol. Had to wear a bandage for 8 weeks which made my head itch like an itchy thing.

Was out cold for the op.

All in all it was no big deal

Had this done when I was about 8 I think.

Not a good idea if you are prone to keloid scarring. Took forever for that to go down and I probably had more grief about the scarring than I had from the ears as they were originally.

If I had it done again I would ask for steroid injections at the time to mitigate scarring and also a further course to manage any scarring that develops.
