Has anyone noticed the post is really slow, and banks?

The post in my area (South Cambs/Herts border) has become noticably slower. A few years ago if I posted a letter 1st class (say to my family in Manchester) it would usually arrive the next day and vice versa. Nowadays I have noticed that it usually takes 2-3 days. Ironically, this is about the same response as 2nd class post - but with a higher cost burden. Not to mentione that all this has occured after they scrapped the twice-daily delivery and shut down most of my local post offices.
Then again, if you cut lots of jobs, let morale slip down the toilet and generally ruin what was once a proud national institution then I would expect nothing less. The RM has a virtual monopoloy (as far as most people are concerned - companies are a different matter) and until this changes they won't exactly be in a hurry to improve the service. Why should they when they still get paid/make profits?

Last month I missed a credit card payment for my Halifax CC card, couldn't work out how that happened as all invoices are clipped to a folder and they organised to be paid off in sequence /priority .
Found out how it happened yesterday, the invoice turned up in the post (I was thinking it was this months bill) but the payment due date was the 5/5/09 ??
Unless I can wind back time, there was no way in hell of paying that one on time. :D

How can they lose a letter for that long?
 
Theres been some mail strikes for businesses in Edinburgh recently. The post worker staff have gone "lolno" and went on strike.

Dunno if some of your sorting offices did the same maybe?
 
Yep i have noticed it too both with banks and the post.
Our postman chooses what days he feels like working clearly as some times we dont get post for a while then loads of post in one day, not just coincidence as it happens with registered delivery post thus knowing when it was posted.

My bank has taken around 3 weeks to transfer my ISA to them, it left the egg last week some time yet still has not appeared in my bank, and the form was electronic so no error there.
No doubt just investing my money to make a return before they give it to me the crooks.

Generally I get no problems with deliverys and such. However our post has started to arrive later and later. A few months ago it used to arrive by mid morning. At the moment it is anytime during the afternoon. Also got a parcel I'm waiting on from Parcelforce 48 hour service... 48 hrs past yesterday and can't see any details on the tracking to show it will arrive today either.
