Hell!! \m/
I'm trying to buy a Peugeot 208 GTI and I'm trying out a few price compare sites. I was using CompareTheMarket and was getting quouter around £1700+ but Axa and SwiftCover were about £1k.

Using there site I got my quote to £800ish which is really cheap. I Googled them and got some bad reviews regarding claims.

I'm 28 years old with no NCB. I drive about 600 miles a week in my works vehicle which is a fleet insurance so no NCB's but it helps with my insurance cost a bit.

I've used Swiftcover before, had no problems whatsoever, never had to claim mind you, switched to them as they were by far the cheapest to cover my e38 7 Series (£249 F/C) this was back in 2005 though.

Been with Axa twice now, once back in 2013 and also this year.

2013 was the year I crashed the 335i and the £11k fault claim was processed swiftly and without question. I was incredibly impressed to find out that the local BMW dealer's bodyshop was on their list of approved repairers, so all work was done with genuine parts and a lifetime warranty.

Another thing that surprised me was that despite having the crash (and dropping from full to 4 years NCB because of it), my renewal came out cheaper! I only moved elsewhere because someone else came in even cheaper for a comparable policy.

You can manage your policy completely online and they don't charge annoying fees for policy changes like the other cheaper insurers do.

The only downside of the two sister companies is that if you make a claim on your windscreen cover, you don't earn your NCB that year.

My policy is up for renewal next month and it's coming in around 10% more expensive but still competitive, so chances are I'll be renewing with them again.

I was with AXA for a year recently when they were the cheapest I could find, and it helped that they have a dashcam discount (10% off I think). I didn't have to make a claim but wouldn't hesitate to use them again if they are amongst the cheaper claims.

keep in mind that people like to slate things when they're angry. So typically review sites will have a lot of bad reviews and few good ones because how often do you go "hmm this was a good, painless experience let me review said company" compared to "this literally broke me and I need to vent somewhere, lemme go bash them on google reviews."

I manage all the claims where I work and we use Axa Commercial. I can't complain about their service at all and we get through a fair few claims. I have no idea if my good experience with commercial helps in this instance though.

I'm pretty sure you will find almost no good reviews for any insurance company, no one cares when everything goes well but everyone needs to be told when something goes wrong.

Go for the cheapest and hope you never have to use it anyway.

SwiftCover docked me a year's NCB for a replacement windscreen claim, which was pretty annoying...albeit my fault as it was in their T&Cs, just something I didn't expect. On that basis, I'll avoid them in the future, although I had no other problems with them at the time. This was about 4 years ago though, perhaps their policy has changed now.

I'm with AXA myself. Not had any problems and it's all been painless and easy to manage so far. Only downside I'm aware of is as mentioned above - if you need to make a glass claim, you stop earning NCB for the year.

I've got a 3-4 inch crack in my windscreen at the moment which I've ghetto filled in with some resin. Hopefully it can hold out until renewal time where I'll switch insurer, but I'm not holding out much hope.

Been with Swiftcover for several separate years, which were each years apart. Claims made in 2 of those years and both atrocious experiences.
The problem was their lack of interest and sending me to dire repairers.
My advice would be to use a claims specialist if it is a third party at fault and a garage of your choice if your fault, even if it means forgoing a courtesy car.

Used for first year insurance. Swiftcover was cheapest at £1300 for the first year, second year they wanted £1200 though whilst other insurers were under £1000. Got second year for £740 with Aviva, you might wanna try their site for a quote. Both have had helpful costomer service but I've never claimed (only 2 non-faults).

Does anyone have it written anywhere about the wind screen claim affecting NCD with Axa?

My policy documents state:

Which seems fairly standard...

I've gone with them again this year for the new car as they were the cheapest but I've been with them before as well as for Home Insurance and never had a problem. Being able to adjust the policy on the fly and automatically generate refunds etc is brilliant too.

I'm looking to make use of their dashcam discount now...

My wording is different to that; when did you take your policy out?

Couple of weeks ago.

Glad you pointed that out! I've just checked the wording on my policy renewal and it matches yours, so it sounds like they've changed their T&Cs for the better.

I've also just noticed that the date they have for my accident is 2014 when it should be 2013, so it no longer falls inside their 3 year rule, meaning it *should* reduce my quote. Will have to give them a call about that when I return to the UK next week.

Been with Axa for a couple of years now. After the first year, renewal wasn't the cheapest but a call resulted in them beating my best quote elsewhere. Had no issues in 2 years, but haven't needed to claim. Changed car and moved house and it's been hassle free to log online and update policy each time. My renewal should be coming through again in the next couple of weeks and I'll happily renew for a a 3rd year if the price is right.
