Has children bicycle prices doubled ?

It's metal prices which have gone up I think. Supply (mostly from China I guess) slowed right down.

The number of scrappy vans i see has increased. I assume that tracks metal prices closely.

Scrappers always have several bikes in their wagons- i can't believe how many people chuck them away. Well, unless the scrappers nick them, I suppose...

Sorry I should have mentioned she's 7, she'd be as tall as a house if she was on that size at that age:cry:.

On a serious note and something that has upset me a bit, me and my brother in law are quite 'expert' in cycling and our in our experience.
One of our Nieces has gone to Halfords and bought the first bike she saw for her 10 year old son who is also the smallest in his class, it's quite possible they thought it was for her because I can't believe they would sell a bike that size for a child.
The frame is around 22", me and my brother in law can't ride it and the seat is at it's lowest setting so the one time I saw half nephew riding it he looked ridiculous and I felt panicky for his safety.
I have passed my concerns to his Grandma/Grandad and so has my Bro in Law.

Is a buyers market currently, huge demand and next to no supply at all even used bikes are going for a decent price, in some cases you can get near the original retail price for a well maintained bike in good condition.

I've got a Forme Longcliffe 3 for £100 that cost £700 in excellent condition and only rode for 4 months and I can't get a sniff.
The best offer I had was a bloke in Scotland saying he'll have it for £80 if I take it to him in Glasgow :)

I buy Frog bikes for my daughter, also for our son until he grew into adult sizes (he's 11, but 5'4" ish).

You can get a tidy used one for around £200, and then sell it for the same when you get a bigger one. Means we can change every 2 years or so without it costing much more than whatever fuel I have to buy to travel and pick up the new one.

isn't this down to advertising strategy ... gumtree was a good option for me.
... but maybe some of the dedicated cycling forum have options, like pistonheads for cars, even OC
