I've had Vista for a while now on dual boot, but the problem is I don't use it, why? cos of gaming!

On everything I've tried there is a significant drop in gfx prowness between vista and xp, forcing me to boot to XP every time.

I have NVidia and have always kept up with the latest drivers in the hope that things would improve, but as yet it's as poor as it was when i first go my paws on it.

Games that run silky smooth on XP run not as smooth on Vista, so i thought i'd post the question to everyone else, do you just grin and bear it? or can some of you not notice it?

Current SPEC. 7800GT 2gig RAM, P4 3.0ghz HT, using the latest forceware.

to be honest most of my games are about the same, if not better in vista now, before the 160.04's gaming was a bit slower but i can't usually tell the difference now,

I stopped booting into xp when these drivers were released and i never used it, so got rid of it

Everything is faster in vista :)

x1900xt with cats 7.6 and vista64, have deffo seen a drop in speed in games with vista. some games its quite a hefty drop but in other its not that big a drop. one thing though currently vista is slower for games for me.

maybe future drivers will sort that out.

Vista for me has been pretty decent, any performance drop has been small, and therefore not worth worrying about.

I was multibooting, but in the end got rid of my XP MCE 2005 install. Vista can stay :)

No, but I do get the "Nvlddmkm" driver fault on my GTX that nobody from nvidia will acknowledge or fix :( .

So I'm sticking with XP for a while I guess.

think im using 158's and have no problems running any of the games i like on Vista 32bit ... Xp may still be faster but it depends on your rig and atm its all good

ive just ordered vista premuim 64mb today along with 4gb ocz ram and im really hoping i dont see a drop in performance. Im really excited to play around with vista and to see the dx10 features on my company of heroes :)

Do yourself a favour, and just use it for DX10 games for now. Leave all your DX9 games on an XP disk/partition, they'll perform better.

I've got my system dual boot XP+Vista as well. I still spend 99% of the time booted into XP for gaming.

I still have problems with sound in many older games when running under Vista, I've tried all sorts of drivers, both official and unofficial, and I've yet to find a driver set I'm happy with when I compare the sound to XP.

I still find many games seem to run that bit better on XP anyway in terms of FPS and the fact that I get more of the occasional framerate glitches (split second stutters) in Vista still.

I'm basically happy to keep a dual boot system though, I'm sure I'll eventually end up spending more time in Vista once the DX10 stuff finally starts coming out, I think I'll be booting into XP for all my legacy gaming needs for a while yet though.

With the 160.04 nVidia drivers I can't complain, Overlord Maxed out @1440x900 4xAA = plays great.

Call Of Juarez now plays on High with some AA with no issues too.

Rest of my games are fine, 2142, Hitman BM, Source games all run fine maxed out too.

If you're just talking about running and playing games then I've lost absolutley nothing moving to Vista from XP.
If however you're talking about "playing benchmarks" and spending all my time worrying about Framerates then yes - I expect I have suffered a little.

However I just like to play games, I realy don't care about benchmarks so I've lost nothing.

Isn't Overlord locked to 30fps though? It certainly is on mine even if I try to force off vsync. Presume it's a game setting somewhere like Jade Empire?

You get one of these threads at least once a week. If you've got your vista install set up properly, you'll see next to no performance difference. Both nvidia and ati drivers are fine now, and even creative are starting to get in gear with their soundcard drivers.

Just got to be careful that you do a clean install, install your drivers in the correct order (mobo drivers first, and make sure to get them from the manufacturer's site, don't use the ones vista installs), are fully patched and set your main user as an administrator.

In other words, have half a clue what you're doing instead of slapping vista on top of an xp install and hoping for the best.

Bit unfair. There are games out there (TDU, DiRT etc) that still don't run as smoothly on Vista as they do on XP. Both are virtually unplayable for me on Vista. They are getting better though.
