Has ne1 not suffered a drop in gaming on vista?

You get one of these threads at least once a week. If you've got your vista install set up properly, you'll see next to no performance difference. Both nvidia and ati drivers are fine now, and even creative are starting to get in gear with their soundcard drivers.

Just got to be careful that you do a clean install, install your drivers in the correct order (mobo drivers first, and make sure to get them from the manufacturer's site, don't use the ones vista installs), are fully patched and set your main user as an administrator.

In other words, have half a clue what you're doing instead of slapping vista on top of an xp install and hoping for the best.

I did a clean install of vista and installed latest drivers etc, and still games ran slower. You may have the perfect gaming setup, not all of us do, and as such my games ran a lot slower, more prone to crash, than they do in XP. Vista is only good for browsing and office/graphic work etc at the moment, XP still beats it imo for gaming

Same, maybe a couple of FPS drop but thats it.

Same here. Ran 3DM05 test when I first installed Vista & got 20 pts less than in XP. Every game I've tried has run perfectly fine in Vista.

Another point worth mentioning is many games sound horrid on Vista as there is no DirectSound3D support, so no EAX etc.

I have vista collecting dust on my shelf. It was installed for a week then promptly removed due its diabolical performance and resource hugging nature.

Why is it that we are having these debates at all? Vista should improve peoples all round experience not detract from it. Microsoft have not delivered yet again and will probably spend the next 3 years getting vista right with 1 or two service pack add-ons.

Surprisingly we are having this debate because your on a forum and that’s normally what you do  As for it being diabolical, did you bother to read the other posts, many people including me find it’s the same as XP.
Also you had it installed a week, that’s giving it a chance. Its a much better os than XP and you really notice the difference when you have to use XP after.

Gah just when I was on the verge of upgrading... I'd read a few posts about peeps being happy with the latest Nvidia drivers so I was going to make the jump when I rebuild at the end of the month. Is there anything on the horizon to fix this?

there is a program called alchemy which creative have released to overcome this. it was made available for x-fi cards months ago.

and recently someone has modified it so it works with audigy2/4 cards as well. so no excuses....:)
