Has online gaming actually "Evolved" from BF2 in 2005?

I loved BF2, running up to someones tank laying some C4 waiting for it to turn and see me, then hit the button to blow it up :)

That doesn't seem to work as much in 3 or 4 :(
 
Works fine in BF3 and 4, used to do it all the time. Even better was pretending to do it so they jumped out, then you jump in and run them over with their own tank.

I don't have as much enjoyment/fun/whatever as I did when I was a nipper early 00s, just not that person any more, that's not to say that online gaming hasn't improved.

They changed it in a later patch in BF4 to make it harder to one hit kill a tank in that manner but its still doable.
 
Always enjoyed bezzing around in a c4 laden jeep.

Not played online for a while now, it may or may not have evolved but the mentality of many players had started getting worse if anything.

I counted it as a fun time if I could go a good while without seeing any gay/sexist/rascist/nazi/rape comments appearing in the comms.
 
Slightly OT but is there a site that tracks BF2 stats still? I looked on one but the data doesn't look anywhere near current as I'm sure I played a lot more hours and was a higher rank than it suggests.
 
Wish they'd remake BF2 instead of BF1 and BFV and use the BF4 engine. Project Reality mod and there was a not quite so hardcore Mod aswell that I spent too many hours on. Some of the BF2 maps were in BF3. BF2 remade would have me pre order though not on the BF1/5 engine

Wasn't just using 1 - you used to be able to take a tank out just by chucking 2-3 in its general direction, they changed it so you had to be more precise and you'd more often severely damage rather than destroy it unless you planted perfectly.

3 was a guaranteed destroy.
2 was a maybe.

It was 2 pre-nerf.
 
I still find Planetside 2 much more fun than some of these new online FPS games. There seems to be more emphasis on shiny graphics and gimmicks nowadays IMHO!
 
I find these days that developers care more about displaying their engine rather than producing an all rounded good game.

There are obviously exceptions.

How does one play it now? Sunk thousands of hours into BF2, my favourite game of all time by a considerable margin. Went to one of my Mate's wedding last summer and did a reading in the church. Met him on BF2 with loads of other people I am still in touch with now.
