Has the PS3 flopped?

so therefore the PS3 is more of a flop then as its beaten more by a 10 year old console :) :)

true lol, but atleast the sales from that relic put money into sony's wallet, tis just another revenue stream for sony. But in seriousness talk of flop is premature and quite silly, ps3s' difficulties have been well documented and this thread is just more of the same

Nintendo are frustrating too many people with inavailability I think- but maybe by September this will improve (it has to dramatically)

Other than that the wii is a great machine (which I would love to get, but its 3rd priority for me having a 360 already and a PS3)

No way is the PS3 a flop - but it does look like Sony overkilled in how many were required, better this way for the consumer than the "worldwide" release MS did - which wasnt.....as it was sold out for months on end after initial release

Will the consumer ever know how many of the stated 10m or so X360's that have been "sold" are actually warrently replacements etc for failed units - unlikely but either way it still puts them in a significant lead for the time being - but it certainly took them a lot longer to get to the 3m mark which Sony have reportedly reached.

There are many ways to string up a cat - each to their own as to how they do it but they are usually equally successful (unless the cat escapes of course :D )

hopefully one day you'll stop talking out of your bottom and realise nintendo have produced a gem. If its so last gen and so naff and so rubbish no one would buy it but thats not the case.

its a fad in my opinion , havent used mine in weeks

i believe theres a poll on here somewhere where most people say they hardly used it after the first few weeks too :(

i wouldn't call the controller naff though , its pretty clever.

by the way i saw the PS3 was nearly as big as the original xbox does it weight as much as well cause i didnt think it was that big, id need a new house to fit it in

its loads heavier , most the consoles a huge heatsink. its about the same size as an xbox360 and power brick .

Everyone rants on about the price of the PS3, but by the time you had the hd dvd and wireless adapter to the xbox 360 premium its more than the PS3

I just got my calculator out and this guy is right! Wow, I can't believe I never realised this before and that no-one pointed this out previously.

Oh, wait a minute..

It doesn't really make a difference though, adding al these extra bits to the price of the console. The thing that sold the Xbox to me was the games that I wanted to play were on the Xbox mainly plus there are loads of cheap second hand games out for the system seeing as it's been available for 18 months or so. Can't say the same thing about the PS3 for the time being at least but I might still get one in the future once the price comes down a bit.

The fact is, why buy a PS3 at the moment?
The Xbox 360 has just as good (if not better in many games) graphics, costs LOADS less money even than the BASIC PS3 system and has a large and excellent range of games. PS3 has vey few games, none of which I would call classics.
I played Motorstorm in a store for a bit and was considerably unimpressed. RFOM is poor to be honest, and it has nothing to match the mighty Gears of War.

By the way if you dont believe me on the graphics point, compare the 360 and PS3 versions of FEAR - PS3 version looks washed out and poor in comparison.

Also look at the 2 versions of Call of Duty 3. Ps3 version has considerably lower res and more blurry textures compared to the Xbox 360 version.
It is PS3's price which is killing it, that and the lack of any really good quality games. It can't even rely on GTA IV to boost its sales now, because that is coming out on 360 as well, at the same time - no one who is saving up for a next gen console to play GTA IV is going to buy the more expensive PS3 to play it on.

Maybe when some of the Playstation heavywieghts start to arrive, like Metal Gear Solid and Killzone, perhaps then it will pick up. However there are no games coming out on PS3 that I have heard of which make me think "my god I need one of those"

Even stuff like Killzone - 360 has Halo 3, which will probably be just as good....

1: Gears of War is crap mate, good graphics yes, probably the best of any game out at the moment, but the gameplay is run, get cover, shoot, and repeat, repetive crap.

2: Motorstorm might not be for everyone and i know you have an opinion and all that, but motorstorm is great fun, and resistance online is better than most 360 games online, 40 player lag free and a launch game, Games like GoW had bullet lag and stuff online with 8 players ffs.

The ps3 hasent had the best start, but its newer than the others, late this year it will pick up, MGS4 will most probably be better than halo 3 (Halo, wow another FPS.. boring)

And im not a Sony Fan boy or anything, i just got rid of my 360 because it kept breaking ,sure it might have better games and graphics atm, but it is also main in romania by starved sex slaves or soemthing, most unreliable console ever.

I still have the desire to stab people in the face over the internet who even considers Killzone a 'heavyweight' game :p . The first one sucked. The PSP game sucked. The sequel trailer was a hoax.

Well it is the PS2's unique shooter. :p
I liked the first one - and the PSP one was actually quite good, it played well to the strengths of the console, rather than just making a cheap and bad port of the original game.

The original was CRAMMED with stunning ideas, but I think the main problem was that it was struggling against the PS2. If they had done it on the PC from the off then it could well have been stunning. Thhat and the fact that it took too many hits to kill bad guys. I HATE it when shooters do that. Nothing worse than having to unload shot after shot into someone - it makes the guns feel weak. Not like on Call of Duty, where even just one shot to the gut from a rifle will have someone on their knees, clutching at the wound, and the second will probably finish them off, unless it is a leg shot :D

i no most people will disagree, but i really think its overated.

Overrated, yes.

Crap, most definately not.

Bomberman: Act Zero is crap. Eragon, in all it's forms, is crap. Gears of War, however, is not crap.

Every game is pretty "repetitive"

Gears of War is a bit boring on SP, but the MP is a lot of fun and is far less about running to get cover (Or kinda), it's by no means crap however.

Edit: and yep Killzone was AWFUL, I mean the AI was just plain buggy, countless times I could stand in front of an enemy, stare him in the eyes then 2-3 secs later he'd attack
It also had pretty shocking FPS problems.

Yes its flopped. Although Jumpurs will have you think the 360's flopped

Ehhh? what the.....

Though i am with Tomanders on the GoW being over rated, crap might be too strong a word, but it certainly is the opposite of a Wii game, and what the Wii stands for.
With GoW they could have reduced graphics and got the game complete, instead they went for mind blowing graphics, but a story that doesn't make sense :(

I think it's too early to know tbh. Wait until January next year (or Feb, whenever the Christmas figures come out) and then we'll know.

I'm a massive wii fan, but if some genius games don't start coming out for it soon (and I know some are in the pipeline, but its still possible for them to be a disappointment) then it could start going a bit wrong for it.

As an adjunct, I don't think anything that's sold 3 million (ish) units can ever truly be called a flop.

Having both, I can only say Motorstorm is massively more repetitive.. it's OK for a quick blast but at least GoW had me hooked until the end, I wish it was a longer game, but I suppose that's because I didn't want it to end..
