Has this PSU been fitted wrong?

Bought a pre built gaming computer from a competitor. I was hearing an odd but intermittent sound coming from the case where a Corsair RM 1000e is fitted into a Corsair Air 5400 case.

On removing the side panel which is vented for the PSU I noticed the PSU appears to have the top vent facing the rear of the motherboard rather than the vent in the side panel. Pictures of the PSU on Corsair website show this is where the top vent is on the PSU.

Doesn’t seem right?

Looks very wrong to me, thing is I thought that PSU screw holes were offset to stop this sort of thing happening.

FYI I've had an interesting reply from the competitor! They say that the PSU placement is fine as its an intake not an exhaust. They are implying it makes no difference despite all of their product photos showing the fan facing the side panel.

IMO it can make a big difference. In this case it is mm from the back plate of the CPU.

So frustrating.

Thats...a strange reply.

The fan is intake, the back panel of the PSU is exhaust.
Even if it wasn't, then you'd be exhausting hot air into a small gap immediately into the back of your motherboard (into the case)...

Just turn it around so the fan is facing the right way. Looks like you will have to redo the cable management for the bottom cables as they will then be at the top but that's hardly a stellar job of cable management in the first place.

I'd be interested in how they'd view your warranty with them if you turned the PSU around.

It shouldn't be installed that way, reply and point out that an intake should ideally be sourcing cool air from outside of the case. Not sourcing warm air from inside, where there's a tiny gap strangling even that. I'd look into pushing the complaint up the chain somehow, maybe name and shame them on social media with some photos of the response and machine, maybe tag Gamers Nexus for added laughs.

You pay a premium for a pre-build to start with in most instances, these companies should be getting it right. Mistakes happen, but I'd not be pleased at being fobbed off like that.

That's the problem working with idiots, in another non computer releated company giving out things and most are absolutely useless, things coming back were dangerous and unfit for use built by other stores, and even the "trainers" were complete imbeciles.

Also recently saw cleaners in supermarket use red cloths on the shop floor, the fridges, the tills. They've been told multiple times, signs everywhere, had warnings.

So people are freaking idiots...if people can't even do simple job of colour matching areas....lol.....that's why I had run ins with the company they didn't like it..

There’s even more to this regarding the warranty as the computer is less than two months old. But to discuss it here will break forum rules as it wouldn’t be difficult to identify the competitor.

Tbh, your situation is hardly a positive advertisement for them so you're probably safe to be a little more loose with your wording.

I mean, I have no idea what the rest of your components are but what if you were running something like a 14900K and a 5090, then went on to do something that would actually stress both components as well as the PSU? They're heat generating monsters and I've seen the combination in prebuilds many times, it's just poor quality control and given how much most companies skimp on certain parts I doubt they've slapped a 1000W gold rated PSU into something with low-mid range parts.
