Since I flashed my cards to unlock the shaders I have noticed a supercharger - like whine when benchmarking, and I didn't before. Is the 12% increase in performance worth the noise? Well, I switched back the bios and now the noise is still here?

Have you experienced this? Its not super noisy, but i don't think its the fan that is winding up, it must be something else mechanical....

Its most likely capacitor/inductor coil whine. Fairly common on modern GPUs. There isn't really a fix (save putting hot-glue/nailpolish over them to damp out the noise).
It tends to get louder/more high pitched as you increase the clocks on the card or when rendering stupidly high frame rates.

Oh and your sig is too big! suggest you take a look at the FAQs

One easy to test if it's fan noise or not is to fix the fan at a set speed (Afterburner or CCC) and then run your usual tests or play your usual games.

If the noise you are describing comes up then it's not the fan.

If the noise doesn't come up then it was the fan as it was ramping up (before you fixed it at a set speed).
