35 this november, and i find myself less interested in the FPS genre for example, and more interested in stealth games, RPGs etc, anyone else feel the same ?

I spend a lot less time gaming these days.

I don't think my preferences have changed, in fact the vast majority of games I play now are sequels or remakes.

I really struggle to get into games now, 39 years ago now, I seem to play a lot less RTS, and not much FPS, more into RPG, and open world exploration/building stuff

I’m 52 and no longer bother with online games like CS, TFc or their ilk, my reactions are nowhere quick enough to beat the younguns. I used to run a TFC Clan in the UKTFCL in the early noughties but that was a long time ago.

I also struggle with MMOs now but that’s more to do with the fact my friends who I used to play with don’t play them any more.

30 now, play a lot less FPS but thats because there all crap now days too. bring back BF3 Bad company & i think i would game as much FPS wise.

i do a lot more couch gaming though. stuff like odyessy/orgins/tomb raider/Witcher3

I have changed from RTS such as age of empires and red alert, to RPGs and turn based strategies like pillars of eternity and civ 6. I find I like to game at my own pace now rather than compete with another.

I do however like to talk about these games with friends more than before. For example I like to discuss my pillars playthrough with others who are doing the same to see what we have done differently.

I'm 36 in a couple of months.

I still play a lot of the same sorts of games I used, I've always been into RPG's and the like and I find I play them more now than I used. I have shifted away from multiplayer gaming, at least online based stuff as I just can't be bothered with the hassle of it. I'd rather settle down and enjoy a good single player game at my own pace par the odd exception, I still dip my toe into WoW once in a blue moon and enjoy the raiding/end game scene but that's one of the few exceptions. Sitting on a couch with some mates and Mario Kart is still a blast mind you, but we all seem to have less time for that sort of thing now.

45 here been playing since the beginning and have owned almost every known console and computer known to mankind. Even the ones not released in Europe i have owned and still own to this day (Neo Geo, Supr Grafx, Virtual Boy, Super gun etc). Not bored of gaming but i find it hard to find a game that i can really get stuck into today.

Currently playing KSP and GTA Online.

Without a doubt.

Could say I was addicted to FPS like CS, BF, COD but now not so much although it doesn't help that the last BF is utter ****.....

Find I want games with more depth, has chance to reward and progress over the jump in and frag but at the same time don't want games, which require you to read a ******* book and spend hundreds of hours to get into it and get good at it.

Also, somewhat gone of MP PVP (hassle, toxic community and cheaters galore), prefer to chill to PVE, SP.

Yes definitely

when younger, I factored FPS games and spent some time playing competitively in tournaments - now that I'm older I dislike fps games and prefer narrative driven single player games

I play something of everything, and try to get online for multiplayer, but over time because of children I play mostly single player games nowadays. Something I can play at my own pace over time

Gave up MP shooters ages ago as causal gamers like myself never get to grind the unlocks and I found myself at a huge disadvantage to those that could and knew the maps inside out a week after release.

Still love a good SP FPS campaign though. Big squad turn based shooter fan as well. Used to love a good RTS, but haven’t found anything I really liked since the original Company of Heroes and Dawn Of War.

I’ll take a good story and interesting gameplay over next gen graphics every time.

Currently really enjoying Hardspace: Shipbreaker.

There's very little in any FPS that you haven't seen in the last 10 FPS you played. They just get prettier.

If they don't have a decent story there's virtual no reason to play them at all (unless you're into competitive MP FPS, which I'm personally not and never have been).

To answer the OP's question, I don't think my taste in games has changed much if at all, but due to age I've seen a lot of what games have to offer, and it's hard when playing anything now not to think "X, Y, Z had this" or "P, Q, R did this better".

Takes a really inspired game designer these days to make something genuinely new, or if not new, packaged in a way which feels fresh and interesting.

It's easy to just copy the current fashionable template for a game and churn out the same stuff all your competitors are doing.

Even amongst the small indie game studios there are plenty just making clones of the popular games from the 90s :p

Hard to get excited I find for a remake or a clone. Or copy/paste cash-in.

e: Checks to make sure this isn't a necro of a 2006 thread :p It isn't. Phew!

I miss the good old times of Battlefield 3, so many laughs in TDM.

much less into pvp multiplayer, the skill gap in (insert popular online pvp game here) requires more dedication to reach parity than i can be bothered with, and without "getting good" it's just not fun.

the last time i enjoyed online multiplayer in a major franchise was cod 3....

Everything holds your hands these days
Play Escape from Tarkov. No hand holding going on there, you really have to get into it and get your ‘hands dirty’ to learn it.

44 years young and tastes haven’t really changed. Will play a bit of anything but prefer fps pvp games. Love the challenge of them, pitting myself against other players. The reflexes may not be what they were when I first started but with games like Tarkov I can get my fps fix without the ‘twitch’ shooter skills of say CSGO or the likes.

As I've got older I find it harder to get into new games especially I have very low tolerance for games that don't have bread and butter mechanics perfected or other areas that aren't streamlined when there is no reason not to be.

I went off FPS games a little as I got older - for ~6 years in my mid 30s I was playing stuff like Eve Online, etc. but back into FPS games again now for some reason though I don't play half as much as I used to.
