Haswell -E Core i7-5960X, 5930K, 5820K specifications

Think the 5930k will be my choice
The high base frequency is of particular appeal
And 2x16x pci lanes

I have to say I was suprised that the 5930k isn't 8 core based on the current line up (e.g. the 4960X & the 4930k) - that said the 5820k PCI-E configuration looks a little crippled

I'm wondering if Intel are concerned that the octo-core CPU's are going to be eating into the Xeon's target market (e.g. servers & high-end workstations)

Personally I don't mind the compromise between base frequency and cores
Many tools still won't utilise all cores and here the extra per core performance will help

That's assuming pricing is fair and you can't overclock the 8 core to the same point as the 6 core overclocked

Will be interesting to see if they keep the same price points, £240 for a hex core?

Agreed, these will be decent chips. Plus DDR4. Prices will be deciding factor for most, can't see that 6 core 5820K coming in under £300, I mean that will likely have 4960X beating performance

I was hoping that 5930k would also be 8 core :(

The 6 cores will likely clock much higher / less heat than the 8 core. gamers will be better off with the higher clocking 6 cores. 8 core for workstation type environment. Or ultimate E-Peen :p

Those pcie configs look meh...

So can't even run 3 x cards at 16x each?

Think May just pick up 4930k and workstation board after all.

The other way of looking at it is, for those who run 1 GPU the 5820K will offer everything the 5930K will. Overclock to same speeds for much less money. 6 core Haswell '5820K' will likely beat 4960X. Could be an epic CPU for the money, I imagine it coming in at around £330 though..

Isn't pci E 3 not even a bottle neck at 8x for today's cards?

Actually, if that is true the bottom cpu may be top choice

Interesting. I imagine the 5930k will be the most popular choice (for multi-gpu set ups at least) and may also overclock better than the 5960x. Will have to see if the octo-cores are worthwhile purchases. I imagine buying those won't give much change from £1k.

Looking forward to this! 5930K is on my list.

At 3ghz base + poor haswell overclocking.

I guess we'll see what they do when they are available.

They're different chips, you can't really compare them like that, same with sandybridge and sandybridge-e etc.
