Haswell Overclock Thread

Have you only tried the voltage settings? You'll probably need to look at some other settings as well first. On my original 4770K I couldn't get 4.3GHz stable at 1.3v (but I could at higher voltage and with other settings).

I've tried increasing vring and a couple others but it doesn't seem to be helping. I'm just about to install a newer bios, see if that helps.

I keep getting 124 bsod as soon as I try to go above 44x and 1.3v.i can boot into windows at 4.4ghz 1.35v but get 124 bsod soon after.

So many below average cpu on this forum. Thank god my first was above average.

Seem like 1deep has the same chip teppic had on his first cpu.

I'm seeing if gigabytes auto tune software has better luck than me atm. It's pumping 1.5v vcore atm :-\ 93c.

It's still doing its thing but is displaying a rather optimistic 5.6ghz......definitely wrong as cpuz says it's stuck at 3.9ghz. Throttling perhaps?

Anyways, I'll let this software finish and see where it leaves me. I'm half tempted to sell this cpu on and get another. Any better options?

Ps: it's now saying 5.8ghz. Make that 5.9ghz.ridiculous :-\

Gigabyte easytune was doing a lot of nothing, ended up telling me my cpu can do 6.5ghz lol?

Cpuz was telling the truth, v1.65.

Just got another bsod at 4.3ghz 1.25v. That's with cpu vrin 1.9v cpu ring 1.2v cpu SA, IOA, I'D all +0.15v

Been there know how you feel.
My CHIP is just as bad.

I would try the stress test but I cant even get to the point of starting one it's that unstable, currently in windows now 4.3ghz same settings as above but with vcore at 1.3v. Will start a stress test in a few minutes, see how long it lasts....

Feel for you PCZ, I knew haswell varied a lot but they seem to just hit a wall no matter the voltage.

Just ran intel burn test 8 threads on standard just to see what the temps are like. This is running 4.3ghz at 1.3v and they went straight up to 98c so I stopped it right there.

Right then, does that mean I'm hitting the temp ceiling hence limiting my overclock?

Will reseat the raystorm block (which is a right pain in the rear end as the backplate just falls off) I'm half tempted to delid but if it's a bad clocker is it worth it?)

What do you guys think?

I'm using g skill ripjawz 2133mhz c9 xmp setting in bios. I haven't messed with the timings or anything, just left them on auto.

I bought the cpu off fleabay..... There's a lesson learnt :-\ although I suppose it is down to luck anyway.

I could sell it on, but I wonder if intels tuning plan would allow me to exchange it?

Try setting ur memory speed down to 1600mhz and overclock the cpu again. Could be bad imc with high speed ram and cpu overclock.

Was the cpu listed as new or used or opened box? Sound like the seller sold it off after testing.

It was a brand new sealed retail unit. Will do more testing when I get back from work tonight.

What is frustrating is that dpd lost the first cpu that was sent out for delivery, so the seller sent out another one. How I wish dpd just sent me the first one.

When I tried the Asus autotune first I set the option to start with strap bclk first - this was on the z87-ws first bios release. When the autotune reached 9Ghz with no signs of stopping I rebooted :)

Did have a few moments when it breached 5Ghz going OMG FANTASTIC CHIP! before I cooled down and noticed cpu-z was staying on 4.7 :)

Updated BIOS fixed that.

I think I'll reseat the block tonight, hopefully will reduce the temps and give it a final crack before I probably think about getting a replacement.

If you're really unhappy you could probably get a reasonable amount 2nd hand, not everyone wants to overclock.

This is why I ordered from a place I knew if there was any kind of problem they'd do a straight exchange with no questions.
