Haswell Overclock Thread

LOL, im still rocking my old system until i get this new one all finished up.

A new day and a new lease of life to get 4.8Ghz. Only settings i have changed from my 4.6 OC is the....

CPU Clock Ratio 4.8
Uncore Freq 4.7
Turbo ratio 4.8 (for all 4 cores)
Turbo Power Limit (watts) 100 (was on auto b4)
CPU Offset +0.170

But now im noticing when stressing that the clock speed & Multiplier in CPU-Z is bouncing about, and can drop down as low as 3.9ghz but then will bounce back up to 4.8 again in a split second. When not stressing the multiplier will constantly sit at x48.0 and not more however. Any ideas why this is happening?

EDIT: Its the Turbo power limit option, i have set it back to Auto and the clock and multiplier dont change now!. I guess it needs more than 100 value?, so whats the plan here to just keep upping it until the multiplier and clocks dont change in CPU-Z?

EDIT2: Change Turbo Power Limit to 150 and the multiplier doesn't fluctuate anymore and stays at x48. I have seen one guide that says you should increase this to the maximum value??

I popped home briefly to pick something up and found my neighbour had taken in my delivery of 350D, XFX psu and H100i, so a I should be able to start seeing if how well my 4670 overclocks in the next few days. I don't think I have the bottle to de-lid it just yet though :D.

If you have the minerals its defo worth doing it!!

Ok it seems that im going to need more than 1.296v to get this chip stable at 4.8Ghz, OCCT doesn't last more than 4 minutes without blue screening. I guess im getting into too high volts for 24/7 use now if i go any higher right??

Nice, but id recommend using OCCT to start with for 30 mins LinPack Test with 'AVX Capable Linpack' enabled, if it passes that then move onto AIDA64 for a few hours.

Upped voltage to 1.308 and still not enough for OCCT, shouldnt go an higher really should i?

Any suggestions on what else i can look at other than cpu voltage to get this stable at 4.8Ghz???

Trying to go higher than 4.4ghz @1.2v but no luck. Upped the voltage to 1.22v but temps were bad 80c +.

Get your tops off its summer :)

Plucked up the courage to delid my 4770, started with a razor and had a job getting under the IHS so finished in the vice, only needed 2 gentle taps so a lot easier than I expected.
Used a very thin layer of clu on the die and under the IHS, covered the exposed resistors (or what ever they are) with cheap TIM before using clu, the whole job was a lot easier and less stressful than I expected.

So to the results.

Now I am no expert so you will have to bear with me, I know you will all cringe but the only bench mark I used is windows experience index, but I have used the same volts for each overclock before and after delidding, also I have used MX4 under my cooler (H100i) which pre delidding used the stock TIM so that may have affected the results but at least it will give you an idea what you can expect

All done with hyper threading Off

4.5Ghz 1.27v

I can boot into 4.8 but it crashed halfway through and I didn't think I should risk more than 1.4v

sorry if this is getting boring but I tried bringing Volts down on 4.7 and managed 1.38v not tried on any others yet

As I said I am no expert and I haven't used prime or any of the others (not that I would know what I am doing with them) but I hope this is some help to someone who knows what they are doing.

Finally ordered my i7 4770k. Going with the Asus Maximus Hero and H110 cooler. I'll be well happy with a 24/7 4.4ghz clock. However I'm worried about temperatures due to where I live. Sadly I won't get the build done to next monday at best :(

Might end up sticking my air con on 24/7 to get a good clock.

1.4v, isnt that in the danger zone?, i thought anything above 1.35 was consider to be bad news??

It's stable as far as I'm aware :p
But I won't be doing serious testing until Saturday when I switch out my RAM, which hopefully fixes my instability problems.

The BIOS on my board is also buggy as hell.
The CPU just flat out refuses to do anymore than 46 multi, and my BIOS will crash when I start doing the straps, so hopefully they'll be a new BIOS out when I get my new RAM.

What temps you guys seeing in games? my cpu doesn't go above 50c in Metro Last Light after an hours play.
