Maybe I will push to see what it can do but dial back to 4.5 or for daily shenanigans. What is the max temp you'd want to see for a permenant overclock? What's the max temp you'd allow for a benchmarking overclock?

I'm not an expert so I will not make that choice for you, but Haswell's max temp is 100, and throttling happens at 90-95c.

I wouldn't run it over 75c for everyday use, and even that is high. That's the general consensus on other forums as well.

I guess short benching sessions you can run it anywhere under 90 if you have to get the max performance.. but I don't think that's too healthy for it on the long run, so maybe 82c max.

I personally run mine at 65-70 for everyday use in heavy CPU games (4670k), and if I prime it it goes to 84. AIDA64 gives it just under 80. I am happy with these for 4.4ghz everyday use at 1.19V.

Mines hitting around 80c when encoding using handbrake and personally think thats about high as I'd like it. In gaming doesn't go over 70c so very happy with that.

Mine does 4.7Ghz at 1.37v in the bios, cpu-z shows 1.392v at load. Temps were low to mid 80's when running Linx AVX version.

I have settled for 4.5Ghz with 1.280v in bios, cpu-z shows 1.292v load for day to day running. I have the cache set at 42x (won't go any higher without crashing no matter what voltage) at 1.170v cache voltage. Temps are 72-71-71-62 when stressing. Tried reseating several times to try to sort out the temp imbalance but it did'nt work. Voltage is set to manual and it clocks down to 800mhz/ 0.736v at idle.

Got the ram at 1866mhz but anything more will not pass stressing. Apart from Dram voltage and timings what else do i need to increase to stabilise the ram at faster speeds? It used to be so simple before. Now there are loads of things in the bios i have no idea what they are for.

You may need to raise the IO and SA volts when overclocking the ram.

They are applied as offsets on my board so that's a extra amount of voltage on top of what it normally runs yes?

Yep, i havent started to oc my memory just yet. But was advised by 8 Pack that theese along with ram voltage and timings were ones to tweak.

Also thinking of holding back on delidding for the time being. Yes my temps with p95 small fft are crazy high at 4.5ghz, (81-94c). 20c lower in blend. Playing games just now and max temps were 64-63-63-63. Cpu fans werent even running that quick and case fans dialled down to 7v. No errors in game or event viewer. Gonna use the system for games and other tasks and work from there. Just need to clock the uncore a bit higher and adjust the memory a bit.

Don't think i will de-lid either. Temps are good in normal usage apart from that 10 degree lower on core 4. Wish the others were that cool. Anyway, if i screw it up i can't replace it at the moment.

Going to try for 2133mhz on the ram over the weekend. Had enough of clocking, stability testing and benching for the time being and just want to use it for a bit.

I've just ordered a i7 4770k and im seriously thinking of De-lidding it...
I also have the EK precision mounting for when I WC it.
So hopefully I can run it without a lid.

But its not here yet, so its still early.

I'd wait to see what sort of overclocker it is first pal before de-lidding it.
You may get lucky and get a good one.

So far my i7 4770k is stable at 4.5ghz and at 1.29v. Was pushing for a higher clock, but would need to go above 1.3v which I am reluctant to do (although my air cooler seems up to the task). So will find the lowest voltage at 4.5ghz I think.

For gaming (which is all I do), I doubt there is even any point in reaching 4.5ghz at the moment. Fun though

My 4770K is running on stock voltage and aircooled. It's rock solid at 4.8 on two cores and 4.7 on all four (30 percent overclock). I actually dropped the adaptive voltage used when it's up-clocked down to 1.215v.

What's your stock voltage?

I presume you haven't left it at Auto in the bios and then just upped the multis

If you have, what's the voltage peaking at in Windows?

I have indeed left auto voltage, but put a downwards limit on the adaptive used when the chip upclocks. Highest peaks I've seen reported when running Prime95 with AVX2 is 1.280v

Am really not impressed with my new build using a i7-4770k cpu
Having loads of hassle trying to get even 4.4ghz stable

could overclock my old i7-2600k cpu's to over 4.4ghz within minutes (even benched tested one my i7-2600k cpu's at over 5ghz with just aircooling )

4.2GHz seems to be rock stable..

But 4.4GHz just blue screens all the time from between a few minutes to 20minutes use..
Spent a few hours trying all different voltages (vcore,VRIN,Ring voltages etc),and other settings...

Temps are ok at 4.4ghz (around 74c the highest I seen so far)

What sort of bsod error codes are you getting? Concentrate on the cpu first, leave cache/uncore at stock of 39x, ram to xmp or manually input timings, voltages etc.
