"Haswell Refresh" CPU's ?

Hi,

Until this afternoon I have to say that I had not realised there was a 'refreshed' version of certain Haswell CPU's available!

My question now is of course, as I am about to order a new Intel® Core™ i3-4370 CPU, how will I know if it a "Haswell Refresh" or not... or are they all like that now?

Sorry for sudden question, but I just want to make sure that I am getting the right item... and that I won't run into any unexpected problems, when I eventually start my new build... a 'hackintosh' actually!

I believe the 4370 is one of the refresh cpu's. Worst case scenario is that the motherboard (H81, B85, H87, Z87) may need a bios flash for it to work although you would think that all the old stock has gone by now and ones with more up to date bios version are now stocked. Z97 boards should work fine out of the box.

Thanks for the reply.

The motherboard I have just purchased is in fact an Asus H81T, and is actually the subject of a question I posted earlier in the 'Motherboard' section at: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18713790

I would still like to know why the R2 version of this board does not appear to be available here in the UK, although as you mention, a BIOS update to the one I have purchased will probably sort things out for me anyway... assuming it will actually boot up in the first place!

Replied to your other thread about revisions etc. The worst case scenario is that the board wouldn't even boot and you would need a older cpu to flash the bios first. If your board has bios 0602 or later you should be good. If it has a earlier bios then all is not lost as one of the good things about Asus boards is that they have a removeable bios chip and you could probably buy one on ebay pre-flashed to the latest bios. Like I said though, at this late stage I would hope that boards are shipping with a more up to date bios.
