A) Hat trick is 3 consecutive goals in a game by the same player (has to be one after another, with no other goals in between)

B) Hat trick is 3 goals in one game by the same player.

My question is, what is the correct definition of a hat trick?

I honestly thought this was a joke lol! Was waiting for the punchline....

C) When a black player scores 3 (probably sue to slavery)

D) Get over it
 
A) and B)

1. Three goals scored by one player in one game, as in ice hockey.
2. Three wickets taken in cricket by a bowler in three consecutive balls.
3. Three consecutive wins or outstanding accomplishments by the same individual, such as a jockey in horse racing.
 
Ok, i'm going to take it as B) being the correct answer.
It was a little debate with the misses, she thought she was right! geez... if she was, i'd never have heard the end of it!!! :p

Hat trick is 3 goals in one game by the same player who has not been sent off(by means of red card) before a third goal is scored and if the 3 goals have been split between the 2 halves of play...then he can not have ate pudding and pie at half-time unless his manager digested it prior.
 
The amount of people saying A makes me think that maybe there's some actual definition stating that the 3 goals must be consecutive. However, by far the most commonly used definition in football is B.

Exactly. As atpbx says, the term has been corrupted.

Because it is A.

Its just over the years its been watered down.
