For me it always been

A) = clean hat trick
B)= hat trick

Depends on the sport. In football it's accepted for 3 goals in a game by 1 player. In cricket it's 3 consecutive balls leading to 3 consecutive wickets.

In footy you also have perfect hat tricks (left, right foot and head) and German hat tricks (one period of play).
