Hate to ask but.....Selfie Sticks

You can always just use the timer instead of bluetooth if you want.

I would ignore the people moaning about them. They're hardly an inconvenience to people if used with even a little bit of forethought for others.

I never got why you'd want to take a photo of yourself tbh. Surely the things you're seeing are what you want photos of? Not that thing stuck on your shoulders that's there every day

When you get around to researching family history you'll understand why any photo with a family member (and usually "Random Guy") is wanted.

There's a thing in village life about there always being a "Dis86" living in the village so parents always called there first born after the Father. So which "Dis86" is your research up to ? How do you know ?
The above is just one example.

Sometime in the distant future, when I'm dead & gone , I hope someone looks me up and says... "poor Bugger, he wuzza trucker " !!

Man your photo albums must be a right barrel of laughs Here's some scenery and some scenery oh and some more scenery :D

The picture is there to evoke a memory, you and whoever else being in it is nice.

That's a bit of a weird post. You're taking the photo of the scenery, that's why you're going to the place - to see it. I'm me, why would I need to see a photo of me?

I used to hate the things, you can't move for them in London. Then I realised that life is short and there are much more pressing issues to worry about. I'm getting soft in my old age :(

I was always very anti them but I actually have one now (a Xiaomi one IIRC) ... but I have never used it as a "selfie stick". I am not good with taking photos due to slight hand shaking and the Xiaomi stick actually converts into a mini tripod with a little bluetooth remote and is really good with taking pictures in that way.

If someone gets annoyed by the sight of a selfie stick.. then they need to do some serious work on their flawed charater.

Good news OP! While the Mrs and I were on our weekly date, which just so happened to be in Lidl this week, I spotted that they were selling silvercrest Bluetooth telescopic selfie sticks for £10. While I am far from an expert in this form of gadgetry I would rate this offer 8/10 on the legit scale.

Where does one put a selfie stick when not in use? Are they retractable or is their shame impossible to hide?

Can't speak for all of them but mine is telescopic so collapses down to not much bigger than the handle (which splays out to form the tripod) and the bit to hold the phone folds back over the body to give a size collapsed that isn't much longer than 6-7 inches.

Of course in full selfie stick mode it does have other uses ... in fact I think I've used it more as a back scratcher than a selfie stick :)

Shouldn't this thread be under photography & video?

For holiday pics, I carry a Canon G1X. It has a sensor size of 1.5" which is good for a compact. If you can afford an iPhone 8 then you can afford a G1X or similar in the Powershot range :-)
