Hatton vs Malignaggi!

Hahaha, I can't believe so many of you are rooting for Paulie 'Punchbag' Malinaggi, he has powderpuff punches and he has been absolutely awful in his last 3 fights.. But then what can you expect from someone more famous for getting pummeled by a severly weight drained Cotto than anything else in his career

I can't see anything other than a Ricky win, most likely on points unless he can stop Malinaggi with a body punch.

Ricky has been looking very good in training so I'd expect him to start boxing a bit more - Him and mayweather havn't been changing his style, just refining it and making him think about his offense again, so Im looking forward to seeing some nice combinations and some lateral movement with some in and out attacks.. :)

C'mon Ricky! :D

Anyone know what time Hatton will actually fight?

I'm pretty sure the fight is due to start at 4.30am, I'll be setting my alarm methinks :)

paulie will win this by UD

i think hatton is planning on trying to box and paulie is much the better boxer and will make ricky look stupid. if rick is behind on the cards by half way then thats it game over as theres no way hes knocking paulie out

I think Hatton will stop Malignaggi. Malinaggi will have to punch and run like hell for 12 rounds, and theres no way he'll stop Hatton (unless he cuts him).

why do you think that hatton will stop him when cotto couldnt ?? paulie had a broken jaw in that fight and still carried on

ricky isnt known to be the hardest of hitters and most of his ko's have come from volume of punches, paulie soaks up punches all night long

I did indeed. The 'exactly' was me agreeing with those people you mention who say that he lasted against Cotto so he should against Hatton. I don't reckon Cotto's power was compromised at light welterweight, if anything I think he was at his best at that weight.

I'm sorry but Cotto was nowhere near his best at LWW. He was absolutely killing himself to make the weight and was severly rocked several times. I'll even quote Cotto:

"I feel complete at 147 lbs. I pass through too much pain to make 140 lbs. I find I could not focus on anything but making the 140 lb. limit. Now at 147, I train with my mind on the fight."

Might be a body shot. Call it a gut feeling!

Paulie is a slicker boxer. Hatton is more the slugger. Lets see what Mayweather Snr has bought to the table.. If Mallinaggi wins its time at the bar for our squeaky pint guzzling Manc. If he wins, then its hopefully a fight with either PacMan or Oscar. Though i didn't see the fight, the last one Hatton won he apparantly got punched way too many times. Is this a sign of him given up ? Tonight we'll find out.

He was visibly hurt late on against Lazcano, though it wasn't from any single big punch iirc. Was more a case of the punches he is used to walking through doing more damage than expected. Billy Graham has since claimed Hatton had a chest infection so close to the fight that it shouldn't have taken place at all. We probably won't find out if that's true or not tonight though since Malignaggi is about as soft a hitter as you will see at this level.

£2 on each round for Paul to win by TKO/KO in the 6th,7th,8th,9th,10th.

£2 on each round for Hatton to win by TKO/KO in the 4th,5th,6th.

Should make what will be an interesting fight a little bit more interesting.

Heading into town with a few mates at 2.45am, plenty of places showing this tonight!

Every fighter who moves up a weight says that. Pavlik, Calzaghe and Hatton himself, come to mind, in saying similar things like how they are a big middle/supermiddleweight anyway or struggle to make their weight, feeling more powerful and natural at a weight up and look at them- Pavlik clearly sucked at whatever catch-weight his fight with Hopkins was at, Calzaghe has looked poor at light heavy imo, and Hatton certainly was not as effective at welterweight.

Cotto might well have more power at welterweight, but whatever power he had at light welterweight, however 'compromised' it might have been, was still better than anyone elses and therefore makes him better at light welter. It's all relative- there's no point having more power if it's going to be ineffective against fellow welterweights like Margarito as he discovered, and Mayweather, who he never managed to fight.
