The assistant chief constable said there had been no other serious assaults of this nature, adding: "Although there have been a total of 13 complaints of assault, none have been substantiated following investigation."

There are always two parties when it comes to Police threads on this forum.

1. The Police Lovers Association. They'll dismantle everything that's been given and reconstruct it to make it look like the Policeman is just your salt of the earth guy, being abused by scum and has every right to batter, beat, maim, kill, assault whoever and whatever they feel like.

2. The Anti-Police Federation. Anything the police do or does is evil, wrong, brutish, barbarian, thuggish and sick. Anyone who is involved with the police is scum too.

With regards to the video, the guy is a thug and he uses excessive force. It's simple as that. You're supposed to use APPROPRIATE force. So yes, it does matter whether the guy is a 20-year old coke head looking for a fight, and a drunk 59-year old woman.

Tell me this. If you had a child that was knocked down by a drunk driver. You later find out the police had earlier found him sleeping in his car drunk with the car key, but left him alone as they believed his story that he was just trying to sleep

I bet you would be blaming the police for not arresting him when they had the chance. Armchair police all over this forum always thinking they are right when they tend to have absolutely NO idea how the police operate.
If I were to blame the police from the emotion of it all, I'd be wrong. I do not believe sleeping in your car while drunk should be an offence.

I have enough of an idea of how the police behave to know it needs improving. The man in the video believes he is better than that woman, and he isn't. The way he goes on is so typical of many police officers, and it does those who really are good a disservice.

I can't believe some of the replies defending this bullying thug.

BTW, I am not anti-police, far from it. I've only had a single run in with the police for a minor offence in the early 1980's. I was cooperative with them, they were Ok with me.

Now, what I do remember from that time, is that the custody sergeant was super "official" compared to the detectives and did everything by the book (a good thing) and is probably to be expected.

This is what worries me in particular about this case. Not only was this officer a bullying thug, he was the custody sergeant

I know my case differs as I was cooperative and the lady in question was uncooperative, but the response was way over the top.

The fact that this guy was a custody sergeant makes me worried about the people who are responsible for employment and promotion within that particular force.

given his colleagues dumbfounded reactions im guessing its not very typical of him.

Well him getting 6 months has restored my faith in magistrates.

dragging Pamela Somerville, 59, across the floor of Melksham police station in Wiltshire before shoving her into the cell

very surprised he gets 6 months :/ When all he was doing was his job. He has to drag her because she was resisting and proving non-co-operative. No injuries are sustained during the "dragging" assault

The only injuries she sustained was when she falls on her face through her own drunkeness and a slight push from the officer.

6 months for that? It beggars belief... makes me think that this entire thing is a manufactured story. Not that it is not true but that it takes 2 years to come to light? The "crime" is committed in a police station with cctv lol..

Leads to my next question - when is a crime a crime? Theres too many things we dont know about whole story seems fishy...
