Back in the days of playing WoW I had so many keybinds that I taught myself to use ESDF to free up some extra keys for PVP. It was a real challenge having used WASD for years, resulting in more than a few fails until eventually it sank in. Tried it recently in BF4 and while it was hard I loved having QWA for quick binds! but ultimately I had to go back to WASD as was ruining my lovely stats :D

I fell away from it after quitting WoW but still remember the benefits :)
Has anyone done the same, done something different, thought about changing or have you been inspired by my post?

I used to use 8456 on the keypad for CS 1.6; gave a lot of the extra buttons locally which worked well... Although I haven't used that in years.

For FPS games like CoD I always use a set-up on the number/keypad. It's slightly awkward, but I find it far more logical, smoother & quicker, and regardless, I'm used to it now!

Here it is.

I suspect that not many people other than me would like it. I was a beast at CoD UO, CoD2, CoD4 and MW with this :D

Do gaming keypads count?

I could not be doing without mine. Esp the the Alt button being so well positioned for the thumb. Also the thumb movement directional pad comes in so handy for when the fingers are tied up doing other things.

I imagine people who are left handed have never played WASD. Although if you're right handed I have no idea how you could play with arrows, playing CiV 5 that has no WASD is hell enough. You either move your keyboard to the left by about 8 inches or keep it infront of you but break your damn wrist over time. Also makes it a pain in the anus to hit important keys like CTRL/R/C/TAB for crouch/shoot/inventory blah blah.

Never used WASD myself either, I began with arrows and have stuck with arrows and I do perfectly well with them because I am comfortable with the setup. I've tried wasd a few times and my performance has immediately plummeted because I just don't find it a comfortable setup

Coming from consoles to PC, using WASD was very hard, took ages to get used too. Never thought of using anything else.

I use wasd but I think that in the end it hampered my use of keybindings, I suck at it! wasn't to bad with LoL as its point and click movement but anything with wasd I need to use my mouse... so yes I admit it... im a clicker!

i use WERD, same principle as ESDF i guess, moves one along for more keybind space in mmos

Me too , it just felt more natural when i first started gaming. As I will more often than not use the forward key rather than backwards it felt right to use the three keys next to each other , which also enables me to free up more keys to the left. These are used for crouch/prone etc for fps or binding different spells for rpg's

arrows and binds around arrows for CS1.6/CSGO.

WASD for anything else.

Another question: anyone else use reverse mouse? :)

I'm an arrow user myself, I simply can't get used to WASD although I have tried a few times and have simply come to the conclusion that the arrow keys are for me, using the numpad keys as well as Delete, End, page Up/Down and the right Shift Ctrl Hash keys for other functions in games. Numpad 1 Jump Numpad 0 crouch etc etc. suits me fine.

Are you left or right handed?

How do you ADS and steady with that setup?

I started off using arrow keys many years ago but then switched to WASD.

The only time I changed from WASD was when I played guild wars 2 and I needed more key bindings. Can't remember what I switched to but could have been ESDF.

Only ever used the cursors.

ctrl to jump, 0/ins to crouch, 1/end to prone, shift to run, enter to use, then home/end etc for any other functions.

it's not great though when there's a ton of keys and so I really should try WASD. I'm deliberately not playing games with too many bindings so missing out on so many great games.
