As title, but not as a pro or anything, just as a hobby however I know absolutely nothing about shutter times, aperature, exposure etc etc etc and reading the threads here confuses me more.

what would be a good camera for a beginner? and what can one do about having "shakey" hand syndrome?

You should really think about what you'd do with a camera first.
Do you want it for snapshots, or trying to be creative? Do you think you'll take indoor shots, outdoor, scenic, portrait, sports etc.
Lastly, how much do you want to spend? It's VERY easy to end up spending a lot more than you expected, especially so if you go into the modular area of D-SLRs, when it's dead easy to spend £100s on lenses alone.

For a complete beginner, I'd suggest you play about with a cheapy compact from a respectable brand such as Nikon or Canon. Don't get tempted into spending a lot with lots of extra functionality. Once you've got used to it, identify what bits you don't like such as start up times, focusing, flash, then come back with more specific requirements and we can give you more advice.

Thanks for the info!!

I was thinking about being a little creative I have had a fujifilm digicam for a while, but the zoom lense stuck on it, so I tried to repair it myself and now have a box camera bits :)

I was thinking of something fairly in-expensive, but that I could get good shots of moving things like cars, air shows etc, but mostly I like photo's of people doing when they are not expecting it, I dont like posed photographs, but prefer it when people are just doign eveyday stuff and you catch a moment in time.

What sort of price for an entry range DSLR?

D-SLRs start at around £500. Please have a scan through the forums as against creating a new thread to discuss a very old question.

Around £400. Worth it for the extra quality and functions but then you end up spending more cash on memory cards, lenses, bags, filters, tripods etc etc. As long as your committed its worth going for.

Damnit, beaten to the post.

Ok put my sensible hat on and say I dont need SLR just yet, however I would like a nice digital camera that has some nice functions on, like been able to take photo's of moving objects without it blurring, like when you see the object clear and the background is blurred. (i think it's something to do with shutter speed is it?).

So what digicam should I be looking for and how much? pref not something that's on the high side of the pricing scale :)

Is this in the sticky? Is there a list of the best digicams and dslrs, because tbh there are really only about 10 digicams id choose and 6 dslrs. I wouldnt hesitate in recommeding them, and give a reason as to why they would suit.
Also is there a bit on manual settings?
If not i dont mind spending half an hour creating something, so people dont have to ask.
