I've not used my camera and especially flash for a while for various reasons and now my flash is not working. I have noticed there is a bit **** inside so it looks like one or two of the batteries may have leaked but it's not much at all and all the contacts look fine apart from one which is slightly discoloured.

Would you say it's new flash/repair time? :(

*edit* Ha! After a lot of rubbing and then using a pencil to add some graphite, all now seems well. I will have to get some vinegar or baking powder to properly clean the contacts though.

There is no way I am sending it back to Nikon after how **** the service was after having to get my D90 repaired.

Flare.

is it turning on?
if not the try n clean all the crud off and try again
if its turning on then but not flashing it may have got on some contacts inside and corroded them, if you can get it apart you maybe able to fix it.
lesson learnt though , never leave battery's in anything if its not being used

Just use some Brasso on contacts like that it works great and brings them up like new again.

I have made the same mistakes in the past too by leaving batteries in devices only to find they have leaked and Brasso has saved them many times.

Other things you can try is contact or switch cleaners, electrical component places have them.
