Have I bought an incompatible CPU

Yeah I've downloaded it in anticipation, I didnt realize how old these boards were when I bought it, they came out in 09, I have no idea how old the stock is but it wouldnt surprise me if there is an older bios on the board, if I can get it running with an AM2 cpu but have no joy with the 840 phenom it will be easier to send the cpu back and get an alternative

Or send the motherboard back for a better one.

Good luck with it.

A happy ending chaps :D I am posting from my brothers comp with the Phenom 840 working after eventually flashing the bios, I tried the 840 in my rig first and it worked ok, I then tried my 965 in the sapphire mobo not expecting it to work but it did, so I didnt need to get hold of an AM2 chip, after some messing about making a bootable flash drive I flashed the bios with the latest revision which cpu-z dates as june last year popped the 840 back in and voila I'm a happy bunny again, thanks for your help chaps.
