Have I broken my computer?

I bought an X1950XT, popped it into my computer, plugged in the power (for the GPU), it worked for about four minutes, started installing the drivers for the GPU and.. plonk. It just turns itself off.

Now when I try and turn it on, I only get a slight noise from the computer, not a beep, just like it's trying to power up. I've tried leaving it, unplugging for a while, nadda.

It's an over-clocked Core2Duo (2.4Ghz > 3.2Ghz), 2GB RAM, Antec 350w PSU I think, and the GPU is now a X1950XT. Have I overpowered it? Do I need a bigger PSU..is the original still fine?

I think you may have pushed your PSU too far. I would personally upgrade to a 500w+ PSU, it should then work fine unless you have blown any components.

Seconded. I think I heard somewhere (not completely sure though) that the X1950 draws quite a bit more power than you'd think. And if it's one of the older PSU's which aren't as efficient at outputting the upperband of their power rating then this could be it.

Bums - I tried switching the GPU back to the original and it still doesn't boot - is it definitely the PSU? :s

And would a 450w PSU be that much better? Should I go for something more than that?

Depends what upgrades you plan to do in the future and how far in the future. If you think you may be getting a more powerful CPU, GFX etc then go for a bit more.

I upgraded from a 480W to the Corsair 620W when i got my new CPU and Mobo for the simple fact i will be going xfire soon.

Modular cables means you dont need to connect the PSU cables which you dont need, so you have no clutter of unwanted cables in your case :)

Looks kinda like this:
