Have I connected my gfx card properly?

Have just built new rig, installing windows and my 4890 is getting quite hot, just want to check, I have a modXstream 500w which has 2 red 8 pin outlets, I have connected both of thes to the two 6 pin sockets on the gfx card.

Is this the right way? Do these cards just run that hot at idle?

Mine was running around 50 degrees ( or was it 60) at idle and more for the memory controller. The 4890 is a hot running card. I now run an underclocked 2d profile that's a lot cooler and cheaper to power.

Sounds like it's connected properly.

How hot is hot? If you could run something like GPU-Z or HW Monitor, it will give a bit more info.
