Have I got deadly giant Asian hornets?!

So this morning I saw this horrific looking thing flying around. Never seen anything like it before it was absolutely gigantic about 3 inches long and looked pretty angry.

I just had a quick search to try and identify it and have come across this!

Looks pretty identical to me what do you recon? Newer articles recon they have killed 6 in France already?!

Unfortunately I was in a rush so didn't try to capture it or destroy it.

It's a harmless Wood Wasp and so is the one in the Mirror link

Edit: actually never mind, even the image circulated by the other newspapers is wrong. The Asian Hornet is far less scary looking.

We have Asian Hornets here in the south of France. They're generally not too fussed by people unless you start swiping at them or jumping around like a little nancy screaming.

Like most things tbh, I don't think I've been stung since I was little but then I'll quite happily sit there and let them buzz around and land on me until they get bored and sod off rather than looking like I'm having some sort of break dancing competition flapping all over the place.

My mother found this thing in the garden the other day, think it might actually be one of those hornets. Was about the size of a small bird.
