Have I got deadly giant Asian hornets?!

The Asian Hornet is far less scary looking.

"less"?

Funny this, as its the second post here on them, and yesterday I heard an odd noise in the kitchen, which sounded like something shorting out, only to find one of these sat buzzing against a plastic bag. Its the first time I've seen one and they are impressive... there must be a lot around this year for some reason.

Like most things tbh, I don't think I've been stung since I was little but then I'll quite happily sit there and let them buzz around and land on me until they get bored and sod off rather than looking like I'm having some sort of break dancing competition flapping all over the place.

This is true until it's not, sit there for long enough letting them land on you and they will bite and sting for no apparent reason - continue at your own risk sometimes they get bored and sting you ;)

Those wood wasps are scary when they are buzzing around you, they are pretty big. But harmless to us I think? I got a little uncomfortable when I first saw one as I was working in the woods building paintball barricades, and it was buzzing around everywhere I needed to be lol.

Wasps are fine, it's spiders that are annoying. Also why I'd never get more than a rock garden for my house. Thankfully I live in the city so it's concrete as far as the eye can see & deadly fumes. Paradise!

There are hornets in the UK recently never saw them before, I had a few appear inside out of nowhere. You cant miss them because the noise is like the 747 of insects especially bumping into things, knocking over vases, etc :p

The OP insect is not aggressive and Ive seen it over many years, its a UK species afaik. The hornets are from the EU, I bet they hurt a bit
