Have i just ballsed up my cpu and mobo?

Antec 183 had no speaker either - used an old one.
 
Damn those pictures so small that i cant actually see the damage done. (now fixed)

No i am not joking m8. ? :confused: I can honestly say i never experienced any problems with any of my builds using this.

Maybe i should have said a small pea then. :D

Rice grain seems awfully small however depends what paste and what chip your using too.
Being as the i5 chip itself is a fair bit smaller than the i7 then yes , i would use less in that circumstance.

judging by your quote i would go as far as to say "no, no you havent" as pins get attracted to cloths

my advice:

thermal paste remover in the socket

tip it so the remnants run out of the socket

put it in the airing cupboard for a few days

- and be more careful

I've done something simular with a motherboard a customer brought to me last year. I used a very fine spray to soak the socket with remover, then used a hair dryer to dry it out then an air can. It's a slow process.

Although I got it working, the PC experienced random lockups thereafter. The chap was quite embarrassed what he had done and was quite thankfull for my efforts but in the end, got me to change the bits to a newer system.
