Have I made a mistake?

Hi,

I have just purchased a Samsung 950 Pro 512GB M.2 PCI-e 3.0 x 4 NVMe Solid State Drive for my new Skylake system, which will be mounted on an Asus Z170I PRO GAMING Intel Z170 LGA 115 mini-itx motherboard in an OcUk Kolink Satellite Cube case.

What I had not fully appreciated though, is that although this particular motherboard has a PCiE M.2 socket, this is of course on the 'back' of the board, and will therefore be very close to the 'floor' or bottom of the case.

As there is no ventilation at all in this area, I have now become slightly concerned that the M.2 SSD may not have enough cooling... if indeed it needs any at all, which I assume it does... although hopefully not a lot!

Should it be OK, or have I perhaps made a bit of a mistake here?

Thanks! :)

Considering that laptop makers are more than happy to stick M.2 drives without any airflow in their machines I would assume you'll be fine.

Cheers... that's what I was hoping.

As the 'chips' on the M.2 drive will be quite close to the bottom of the case anyway, (although this is painted black), I wondered if it was worth trying to use some form of heat conducting 'pad' so as to use it as a large heatsink?
