Have i ruined my Ring doorbell?

So a ring operates at what 16-24v AC. What we have here is seemingly sending 240v to a 24v device... if the protection circuit is any good then it might have just blown a fuse on input voltage. If not then well it's likely fried. If you are handy with a meter it shouldn't be rocket science to see how bad it might be. Didn't you question at any point taking mains voltage to a low power device?

Edit: ... Also obligatory ring related joke here :)

Should be fine. Remove the wiring and put them on your tongue, if you feel a little tingle, the power's fine. If not, it's a power issue.

Strange that you sign up for a computer forum(Which the associated business do no sell Ring products as far as i am aware) to ask this rather that Ring support.

Anyway, yes you have probably ruined it. I believe they can be wired to the wiring that is used on an old doorbell but 240v is  i am surprised it didnt catch fire.

I guess in the sense that this "computer" forum has sections for sports, cars, work, home and garden.......

Totally appropriate post in that OP has assumed that many other tech geeks who likely reside said "computer forum" will have experience of ring products and how to install them, given that they are a "gadget" / "tech".

The thing is, it's been a couple of years now that we've seen an inordinate amount of people signing up to ask about Ring installation. I expect it's because forums are getting thin on the ground and we've got a few sensible threads on that sort of topic where people actually know about technical stuff.

And no you can't install anything in my ring :o

One never ceases to be amazed. I will for evermore ring door bells with considerable trepidation, or with a suitably insulated object.

You may have just (inadvertently) created a niche market saleable object, advertise similarly modified ones as "The Jehovah's Witness Suppressor Bell".
