Going about a rebuild and want to re-use components.

I have a Corsair modular 600W power supply CX600M bought in 2013 (as new) - this has modular leads for HDDs etc. but fixed leads for mb etc. - will these still be compatible with a new motherboard - thinking of a Asus Z97M-Plus or Asus Z79-K

Thanks, Mel :)

The Corsair CX isn't the best power supply in the world. They are better suited to Office/Low end systems, but to answer your question yes it will be compatible.

Thanks - it is used / to be used in a general purpose (browsing / email / word / excel) / photo-editing / 2nd PC - definitely not for gaming!

So prob OK!!

I can still use my 9 or so year old Akasa PSU with a modern motherboard since the power connections are the same.

Just checking again

Motherboard - 24 way power socket; 8 way cpu power socket

PSU - 18 or 20 way power plug (can't see properly); 4 way cpu power plug

SO - I just use one half of the cpu power plug; and leave sockets 11,12,23,24 without anything plugged in?

Is that right? Thanks, Mel

What CPU are you using in the board? A low power one should work fine, but something more powerful such as an i7 for example (maybe even an i5) might struggle.

This (using on-board graphics so no separate card);

CP-540-IN Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
MB-605-AS Asus Z97-K Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard.

Not a gaming machine - just photoshop etc.

You can try it with just the 4 pin cable that is hardwired into the psu. If it doesn't boot for some reason, then just use the modular 8 pin EPS cable.

The larger 24 pin cable obviously plugs into the 24 pin socket on the board.

You won't need the pci-e cable if you are using integrated graphics.

Just googled your PSU and the result i found said you should have

1 x 24 pin cable
1 x 8 pin 12v EPS cable

Both should be hard wired, (unless this is a newer version).

Maybe not the best PSU nowadays, but should be fine.
