Have shop websites got worse?

Came here to post this. It's ******* useless. One example, looking for a rucksack for work, want a 35l one but Amazon gives no option to refine by size. Instead it offers up a load of useless parameters like a list of makes that look like somebody lobbed a scrabble set in the air and let fate choose the name.

Exactly the same experience and eventually after searching for ages came across the one I wanted and it was at Argos a bit cheaper.
It's what I use for work but it's only 25l.
It really is the worst search engine and you can't boolean search or remove words.

Amazon is brutal. It's got so much worse.

But true it's a lot of sites.

I assume it's like my work. We replaced an old system been there for 10yrs. With a new one. They took no one from the old team started with a new system new staff, mostly programmers. No one with any experience of the old system. What they created is harder to use than the old system. They basically reinvented the wheel, but a worse one.
Something like this?

Amazon search is useless. I needed a new battery for my laptop. Entered the exact model number into Amazon and it listed batteries with a similar but different model number. Went to Google search and it gave me a link to the correct battery... on Amazon!
The search on a lot of places is now so useless that
site:Sitename Search Terms
is often the only way to find things.

Have to agree website design is getting very poor/lazy. Consider this constructive feedback...

I’m in the market at the moment for a new monitor and every time I browse OCUK's monitor section it pains me as it’s a complete cluster ****. I can select the type of panel but then cant select the size for the monitor or the refresh rate, or I can select the size of the monitor but not the panel type or refresh rate, or i can select the refresh rate but not the monitor size or panel type.... just to name a few issues with it. It's a complete mess. Why not have the option to pick a monitor size and then filter with tick boxes if its IPS, 144hz, etc

Even simple things like you add a CPU to your cart but then there’s no 1 click option to "View compatible motherboards" and there’s no option to filter ATX, M-ITX and M-ATX in the motherboard section or in the case of the latest intel ones, nothing to filter DDR4 or DDR5 motherboards

The usability and structure of OCUK's website for somethings is diabolical considering they're one of the UK's big store/websites for pc parts

Most online retail still looks ok for me from a visually impaired viewpoint including Overclockers, although my dark settings does cause the arrow logo to appear as "chevron-left" and "chevron-right" as screenshotted here. It's not just this shop though. It affects some other sites too.

Yes - doesn't everyone search for products using google - for most products it is better than the native shop searches Overclockers, amazon, tescos ....
eg search "overclockers 32" ips monitor"
must be the AI inside on google.

You just been awkward now.

Stop it.
He literally personified everyone of your nonesense posts.

My favourite is when a broad search term takes you to a single product. Can't remember where this was, perhaps B&Q, wickes or the like.
B&Q search is utter garbage now it is a "market place". You can't even filter by what is available in store IIRC.

Counter argument: websites have not changed but customers are somehow more entitled than they've ever been.

me: high fives cheesefest behind the Deli counter.
What deli counter? Most supermarkets, including mine closed their delis as not cost effective. Think we took an average of £3k a week. Put the same stuff in the chiller - more sales. Very few items I reduce whilst code checking.

I am surprised so many people still shop at amazon still given the negative outlook to them on here. I was just looking to see if coffee in bulk there was cheaper than supermarket, it's more expensive in bulk than single bags at the supermarket.
