Yes.

Using Start8 to bring up the Windows 8 metro start screen within the desktop, as apposed to constantly switching from full screen to desktop.

Microsoft could give the task bar a bit of a spruce up in future versions and make it more customizable. Since the start menu is gone there is no real reason for the icons to be bunched up to the left - if anything it increases your chances of hitting the hot corner by mistake. Stick the recycle bin on there as well et voilà, OSX (only kidding)

Edit - also give the power user menu it's own icon/button that you can add to the task bar.

Nah I prefer them in the left, I know where to go.

Also not using a start menu. Thing's I use several times a day I've pinned to my taskbar, things I use once a day I've pinned to my start screen (i.e. two clicks away) everythin else is 1 left click, 1 right click, and a left click away, or one click and type what i want.

I really don't get why people think the start menu invented in 1995 is better than the start screen. Probably the same sort of people that change their theme to windows classic.

I haven't added one yet...
But am very close to adding one as at the moment am just filling up my desktop with the shortcuts I would normally use the start menu for...

Example
Network icon
User folder (my name) {for shortcuts to Music,Videos, Documents,Pictures,downloads }
My computer icon
Control panel
ETC

right click bottom left for most of your needs

If you want them on the left, you can have them on the left. With the removal of the Start menu and the addition of the hot corners it makes a lot less sense to have them bunch up in the corner by default.

surely u know about pin to taskbar, has it's in win7 too

just pin it to the taskbar.

theres features like that to make doing things even faster

but people still give silly reasons to moan.
Don't really want my taskbar filled up with loads of shortcuts.

The taskbar feature is not the same in windows 8 because they removed the open file location option. You can restore this feature by installing Classic Start Menu.

open file location option is in the start screen

I can't see the point having it for the taskbar tbh.

Yes, my HTPC is running on a 720p TV so half the stuff in the Start Screen doesn't work.

Using startisback for now.

I added the Classic Shell utility for the Windows 8 PC's that I use, although it is more for the function of booting straight to the desktop and to disable the active corners. The Metro interface still occasionally gets in the way but it is manageable.

Nope, initially I wasn't sure about the new GUI but quite like it now. The biggest issue for me isn't a new GUI, it's the face that the old desktop is still there and the two don't really "fit" properly, it's not seamless and seems rather daft.

I don't mind using it though, really not sure why people feel the need to skip it, it's just a horizontal, nicer start menu with nice options for finding what you need much faster..
