Have You Picked Up Any Gaming Habits?

Have you noticed any habits that you do, where you just can't seem to break the cycle?

So for example:
I seem to have a real issue with games in general. I start a game, have a pretty good first session, then once that session is over, I might never open that game again, I might go back the next day to play it again but that original feeling I had when I first started just isn't there anymore, making it feel more like a chore.
I will mass install games that I tell myself I'll play, some games I've played in the past, so already know I liked them, which just sit there for months without being touched, then I just mass uninstall everything again.
Spending too much time thinking what I want to play, rather than actually playing said game.

I should start doing other things, like reading my books or finishing my cross-stitch, but at the same time I can't keep my mind away from the games I never play. I think some of it comes from having more choice, which is nice so long as you actually play them.
I might have to actually uninstall all launchers to try and break the habit, might force me to do something else.

What habits have you noticed you seem to have picked up as you've gotten older? And have they made you start to do anything differently?

I only play games, watch movies or TV that i am interested in. With games i will then play them non-stop until completion. For instance when the RE games come out, i've been known to take a few days leave to get through them :) Nothing is rushed, i explore 100%, but once i'm done, i'll rarely go back to it, unless it's the original RE. Did the same for TLOU. But i hate open world, open ended games - i like to see a game through to completion and only something worthwhile - there's too many games or movies/tv to get through, so i pick carefully.

I still play L4D though - nearly 9k hours - eek.

I've noticed a habit from others. They spend copious amounts of time in threads for games they aren't interested in and provide zero value to any discussion on it.

Damn, 9k hours! How many games do you have?

My most played game is ETS2 at 309 hours, after that it's Tabletop Simulator at 183 hours. I only have like 7 games in the 100-200 hours range. And 15 in the 50-100 hour range. I have 1,783 games on Steam and my account on Steam is 19 years old.

To try to help my bad habits - when I install a game I use Fences (just a little app that divides my screen up and keeps icons in place) and place those new games in the 'haven't played yet' fence. So I can see them ready to go and are more likely to try them.
The next step is if I like them they go in my 'carry on' fence. I also have a long term fence that some games never leave like Cyberpunk, Minecraft, GTA5.

But long story short I use desktop icons a lot.

I spend quite a bit of time looking for upcoming games, but 9/10 I don't buy them. So few games end up actually good when launched it hardly seems worth looking for games or having a gaming pc at all.

18 on Steam, i prefer my console for gaming. Surround sound set up, 65" TV, sat on the sofa, as oppose to hunched over a keyboard and small(ish) screen.

I got into PC's late in life :(

The thing I notice about myself is that the hardest part is to actually install and make the effort to begin the game in the first place. Once I've done that, I tend to enjoy and carry on the experience until I have completed it.

I have what I deem to be a substantial backlog. It stops me from buying new games that aren't on a significant sale. I try to alleviate this by prioritising and filtering games. I do finish some games I prioritise and filter out a fair few that I have either decided in retrospect to ignore or have become too dated to bother with. My reluctance to buy full price and more of my backlog becoming dated should mean that my pool of choice diminishes over time. A backlog does have an advantage in that you can make do with your components for longer than you would do ramping up the graphics on the latest games. Upgrading this year has dated a lot of my backlog. It's hard to go back to some titles after seeing what the latest hardware can run on this year's games.

Plug your PC into your TV and be done with it. I did this 6-7 years ago and haven’t looked back.

I tend to play one game at a time right through to completion or I’ll never finish anything!

You have too many distractions.
Also games got easier and more mainstream so less appealing to real gamers.
games aren't made for us anymore.

It's lie Hollywood now they just pump out generic glittered turds and expect people to keep paying as if they are drug addicts.

I've heard similar complaints from car collectors about modern Ferraris etc too much focus on ugly looks and glitter aka tech and unlikely to be considered collectable in the future
