My son has been having issues with passing out and after some tests, it was found that his heart stopped 8 times in 10 days, so he was fitted with a pacemaker a couple of days ago. I have looked online about people roughly his age having a pacemaker fitted, but have not really found anything for roughly 2020 about it. I am intersted in knowing if anybody here (or knows of some one) at his age that has one fitted and what problems they have had?

Neighbour is young, not that young. He has one, does eveything I can think of. Maybe more concerns with covid. He's married kids, goes running etc.

I knew a girl who got one when she was about 16. Can't say anything more than that I'm afraid. She seemed happy and fine apart from that.

Has he tried a medicinal CBD?
:D

What level of care did you get from whoever fitted the pacemaker that you're having to ask a computer forum for potential problems or issues? I'd have thought that would be one of the most critical things they would (and I imagine they already have) told you

I visited a cardiologist for extreme bradycardia (30-35bpm, palpitations etc) 3 or 4 years ago, echocardiogram etc. If it persisted a pacemaker was a potential option. Whilst I never passed out I would 'white out' fairly frequently standing up too quickly etc. The result of a particularly active lifestyle, funnily enough I had no issues during exercise.

Fortunately it settled down and I've had no issues since.

A valid question.. I asked here because so many people visit this site and I thought what the ..... and gave it a shot.
While the surgeon was top notch, his doctor was less so.

Only information I have found to date has been from several years ago and a number of issues came up to watch for etc, but things have changed from a couple years ago so I was just checking more in to it.

You have to be careful around induction cookers, you can still use them as long as you keep a certain distance away (don't lay on them...) no arc welding or contact sports and when you go through airport security you have to tell them so they pat you down rather than go through the scanners.
Other than that and the regular check ups /battery replacement every few years depending on how reliant on the pacemaker you are then carry on as usual.
My partner got one when she was around 30.

Guy at work has had one for a good few years although I don't think he was quite that young when he got it but from the chats I've had with him about it he needs it checked every 12 months or so just to make sure it's all good, apart from that he doesn't really notice it competes in Iron man triathlons without issues.

A skydiving friend of mine had one fitted at around 25, he suffered after effects from being struck by lightning. He's now in his 50s and doing well, no health issues, lifts weights, goes for hikes, and still jumps out of planes!

Similar story here although I still get the odd flutter now and again which catches me off guard.

Loads of tests done and a monitor worn and they couldn't figure it out. Not convinced I'll make it past 50 :D
