*no sexual sheep/farmer jokes please*

Can they be trained? Reason I ask it that I think sheep are very friendly animals. Most people just think they're scardy-cats but I've walked up to many sheep and patted them, they're very chilled out animals, and very affectionate too, just like cats and dogs. Some are more edgy than others and I think this is why people don't relate to them.

So do you think a sheep could be house trained? (not that I'd keep it in the house). But could you not teach it tricks, play ball games, etc??? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

Here's one I spotted today, just chilling in the spring sunshine. A most passive beast.

Funny looking thing, eh?

Clicky me too

i'd be too tempted to call a butcher or do it myself, plus the sheep doesnt create expressions on its face like a dog/cat do.. and i doubt you could play catch the ball with a sheep ;) :p

No that the wels... damn that no joke rule

Erm, yeah we do for sunday lunch but I can't think of anyone that has a pet sheep unless they live on a farm maybe.

You can't joke about the Welsh? Didn't know that rule was in place here.

Just found this info:

Any breed of sheep can be kept as a pet. There are several miniature breeds. Pet sheep should be females or neutered males. They should not have horns.
 :(

Sheep are actually far more intelligent than most people realise. Google, "sheep intelligent" and you'll see what I mean. Perhaps thinking of them as stupid makes them far easier to farm as food.

My Grandmother always say anything walks on 4 legs with its back facing the Sun can be eaten.

Id've thought that you would have to be constantly picking its hooves out to stop it from spreading dirt all through the house.

i personally cant see how a sheep can replace or take upon a position as a pet  it wont give you any attention apart from stuff such as when its hungry...

the same could probably be said for most animals people keep as pets ;)

Whilst I don't know much about sheep, I wouldn't assume they are any dumber than say cats or dogs just because you normally see them in the fields looking fluffy ;)
I beleive goats are meant to be pretty smart, and pigs apparently are a lot smarter than dogs when given the chance.

So close and I would have flamed you :D

Only reason I can think us Welsh would want to turn to sheep is because how ugly our neighbours are across the Severn.

Poors Scots as well they got the same problem south of their lands.

Its the Irish who get the best deal on it all.

/runs.

psst need some backup fellow celts :D

Damn these ex-dons, always pulling up on small typos :D

if you get a farm animal as a pet the chances are it is a breed that will put on weight quickly and not be expected to live past 4 or 5 years,so don't get too atached to it

There used to be a woman who lived about a mile away from me next to a beach. I used to see her taking her sheep for walks on the beach with a lead on it. I spoke to her about it once and she said it lived inside her house.
