I bought a new evga gtx 460 on friday and have had nothing but issues with it. Everytime i try to run game that uses 3d my system stutters and locks up. Only way to get out of it is to switch the pc off.

My motherboard is an asus p5n-t deluxe, 8gb of ram and win7 pro.

i've tried an clean istall, updated all drivers, flashed my motherboard bios and none of it has made any difference. I have no idea what the problem could be so need some advice on what to check.

Just ftr, my system will run fine if i put my 8800 back in.

Have you got a good power supply unit with sufficient power rating (watts) ?

Have you tried looking at the system logs in the Event viewer under control panel for any serious or critical hardware errors?

Yep, PSU is one thing.
Next one is to check your NB/SB temps as P5N-T is 780i-based motherboard which gets really hot (100 deg = in BIOS you should have an option to turn off PC when it's achieved), especially with 8 Gigs of RAM (all 4 banks populated ?) and stronger card.
Third thing is - it might be silly graphic BIOS (aka link:)

At the end it's card damage ;-)

My new Gigabyte GTX460 OC 1GB kept locking up under load. Thought it was the card at first. After testing the card in 2 other PCs, and finally changing my motherboard (Gigabyte MA790X-UD3P), I realised that the MB was at fault. It`s been sent back to Gigabyte for repair. I`m running a cheapo Gigabyte MB now, and the GTX460 is rock solid.
